All will cease. Therefore, some say that because there is a mind without outflows, there is no fault. Others say that this mind has two powers: like this, the power to generate imputation in persons and imputation in phenomena. When noble hearers and solitary realizers enter the path, because they see the selflessness of persons, imputation will cease, but the second is not, because it is only the selflessness of phenomena. Therefore, those people have minds with outflows, but because that mind is not in accordance with afflictions, it is unpolluted and neutral, but not polluted. Bodhisattvas see both selflessnesses, therefore all imputations will cease, so it is only without outflows, they say. This second view is well-spoken, like this, if the noble path is realized and there is no more learning, and in the pure lands, the nature of mind ceases, because there is no place for simultaneous arising, at those times, the consciousness of mind with or without outflows will not arise, and like the five, the fault of having no similarity will also fall on oneself, and if there is no nature of mind above the eighth ground, then that mind itself, as the continuation of the Vajra-like Samadhi, cannot be transformed into the wisdom of equality. If according to the first view, even if one admits that there is a mind without outflows at that time, it will lead to the fault that hearers and solitary realizers also have a complete transformation of mind. Therefore, only the second view is good. In this way, just like the all-ground consciousness and the ripening consciousness, and the wisdom like a mirror, the afflicted mind and the wisdom of equality should also be viewed in the same way. Among them, as long as the mind itself is in accordance with those four afflictions, then the mind is both mind and afflicted. When it is not in accordance with those four afflictions, because the consciousness of mind is the place of arising with or without outflows, it is mind, but not afflicted. Corresponding afflic

When do the four afflictions subside, and when does one receive the designation of 'afflicted mind turning away'? When the mind itself is free from all aspects of fault, then one receives the designation of 'mind transformation' and 'wisdom of equality.' For children, it is entirely an afflicted mind. For learners of the Hearer and Solitary Realizer lineages, when they have not settled on the path, it is entirely an afflicted mind. When they have settled on the path, since it is obscured and indeterminate, it is not an afflicted mind, but merely mind. In the state of the non-learner, it is also just mind, as before, and in the realm of the remainderless aggregates, the continuum will be cut off. When Bodhisattvas settle on the noble path, it is the transformed, uncontaminated mind. When they arise from the path, below the seventh ground, they arise in conjunction with the four afflictions, so it is entirely an afflicted mind. Above the eighth ground, they do not arise in conjunction with the four afflictions, so it is not an afflicted mind, but since they engage with subtle obscurations and imputations regarding phenomena, it is not entirely virtuous or uncontaminated, and is called the obscured and indeterminate mind. In the entry into the Vajra-like Samadhi, since it is free from all signs of imputation of self and phenomena, it is without fault, and when only its own nature, completely pure and luminous, is manifest, it is called the Wisdom of Equality, and it spontaneously engages in a continuous stream as long as samsara exists. Thus, the minds of Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and those abiding on the irreversible grounds are not transformed because they are the co-emergent cause of the arising of the aspect of consciousness imputing phenomena, and therefore they do not obtain the name of the Wisdom of Equality. This is a brief treatise on establishing the afflicted mind. As it is said in the Thirty Verses: 'It is further established as the supreme abode, its object is called mind, consciousness and mine and pride, of obscured and indeterminate nature, always associated with the four afflictions.'

Seeing as self and being deluded about self, Having the perception of self-pride and self-attachment, Wherever one is born, that one's milk, And touch, etc., that one is not an Arhat. It is not in the cessation attainment, It is not on the path beyond the world, This is the second transformation. Thus it is said. Now, the proof will be stated. How is it shown that the mind with the characteristics as described above exists? From scripture and reasoning. Among them, for now, the scripture is from the miscellaneous collection: The afflicted mind is always, Born and arises together with afflictions, That one from all the afflictions, Will not be liberated until liberated. Thus it is said. And in another sutra also: Mind is the aspect of the basis of all, The consciousness is the self-mind-mind, Whatever grasps onto an object, That is called consciousness. Thus it is said. Mind, mind, and consciousness, thus it is said. Relying on reasoning, from the Compendium of the Great Vehicle: Unshared ignorance and, Being the same as the five, And the fault of having no definition. The distinction of meditative absorption, And the continuum of the birth of non-perception, The fault of having no self-grasping. One who possesses self-grasping, Is not reasonable in all ways. If there is no afflicted mind, The two non-existences contradict the three existences, If that does not exist, then, Self-grasping is not universally present. Thus it is said. The meaning of that is this: If there is no afflicted mind, then there will be no unshared ignorance, because there is no basis for it. If that does not exist, then the suchness of all sentient beings will be seen without effort, because the obstacle to seeing it, ignorance, is absent. What is the nature of this so-called unshared ignorance? Regarding this, the Vaibhashikas say: This is similar to the consciousness of the mind, being in the position of seeing the truth, the afflictions such as desire that are to be abandoned by seeing, not being similar to other afflictions, therefore it is called unshared or unique. Thus they say. According to the Mahayanists, there are two: One is the ignorance that arises together with the co-emergent view of the aggregates that arises in the retinue of the consciousness of the mind. That only arises sometimes, not always. The second is the time
