Some are naturally destined to be the causal conditions for the path of the Great Vehicle. Some are naturally destined to be the causal conditions for the path of the Hearers, and some are naturally destined to be the causal conditions for the path of the Solitary Realizers. Some, due to circumstances, are suitable to be the cause for all three paths. The first three are the definite lineages of the three vehicles. Therefore, those who abide in them cannot be transformed into other vehicles due to circumstances. The latter is the indefinite lineage. Therefore, the Great Vehicle, Hearers, or Solitary Realizers who abide in it can also be transformed into other vehicles due to circumstances. Among them, the Bodhisattva who abides in the first definite lineage is called keen faculties. The one who abides in the second indefinite lineage is called middling faculties. Those who have heard the Hearer and Solitary Realizer vehicles and then correctly enter the Great Vehicle are called dull faculties. The Hearers and Solitary Buddhas who abide in the definite lineage are called those who solely proceed to peace. Those who abide in the second indefinite lineage are called those who can be completely transformed into Bodhi. Among them, those who solely proceed to peace will inevitably enter the realm of Nirvana without remainder and be completely extinguished, therefore they cannot generate the mind of unsurpassed Bodhi. Therefore, it is said in the Sutra: Even if all the Buddhas strive with diligence, they cannot place those who have entered the path of Hearer's peace in the essence of Bodhi. Those who can transform the Solitary Realizer vehicle into Bodhi, as long as they have not become the final existence, if they are embraced by a Great Vehicle spiritual friend, they will generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete Bodhi. When they become the final existence, it is impossible to enter the Great Vehicle, because due to the power of aspiration, being born in a field devoid of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, it is impossible to encounter a Great Vehicle spiritual friend. Therefore, those Solitary Realizers who are in their final existence will inevitably tend towards peace.

It is called the "Sole Path." As it is said: From one's own land, all of these should be considered the sole path for pacifying afflictions. If a Shravaka completely transforms into Bodhi, as long as they have not directly realized Nirvana without remainder, if they encounter a Mahayana spiritual friend, they can generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. When they completely pass into Nirvana in the realm of Nirvana without remainder, they have no power to generate the mind, because it is merely the utterly pure realm of Dharma. Therefore, Arhats, when they possess remainder, can enter the Mahayana, but when they are in Nirvana without remainder, the possibility of the name is explained in detail in the Extensive Determination Collection. Thus, since the Suchness that is the cause of the object follows all, it is not contradictory to say that all have the Tathagatagarbha. And the lineage that is the cause, which is said to be the distinction of the six sense sources, has both definite and indefinite aspects, as explained above. Therefore, the distinctions of the three vehicles having different lineages, having indefinite lineages, and some not having that lineage, etc., are explained in the Sutra Unraveling the Intent and the Ornament of the Sutras, etc. Also, in the Ornament of Clear Realization, it says: Because the Dharmadhatu is without difference, lineages can be different; because of the difference in the dependent dharmas, its difference is completely expressed. That is to say, the first half of the verse, from the perspective of the lineage of the objective condition, shows that there is no difference in lineage; the latter half, from the perspective of the uncontaminated seed that is the causal condition, explains that the three vehicles have different lineages. The explanations of the noble one and Simhabhadra are understood to be not in accordance with reality. Why are the differences in the lineages of the three vehicles established from the perspective of the second lineage? If not from the first perspective, it is because Suchness has no difference, so it is divided into three vehicles.
