In this state, what is the undefiled seed that abides by the nature of reality? The second is, what is the state of being nourished by the cause of hearing and growing? Some would say that these are, in order, the seed of abiding by nature and the seed of growth. This needs to be examined. Like this, the former is also not unchangeable by conditions, because by nourishing with conditions such as hearing, it grows more and more, and ultimately has the power to actually produce transcendental wisdom. Therefore, if this also grows through conditions like the latter, then why not call it growth? If this is something that cannot grow through conditions, then how can it become the seed of the noble path? Because it does not make any difference to the noble path. If the Tathagatagarbha becomes the cause of the noble path through the aspect of the object, then this is not the case either. If this becomes the condition of the cause of the noble path without relying on the nourishment of conditions, then at that time, the noble path will arise even without the precedence of hearing, etc., so the second type also becomes meaningless. If even if it becomes different through conditions, it is not called growth, then at that time, what other reason is there for the second to be called the seed of growth? If it is said that the former abides by the nature of reality, and the latter is newly obtained through conditions, then, precisely because of this, have I not also said that these are, in order, the former abiding by nature, and the latter being truly obtained through conditions? I am not denying that the former abides by nature and the latter is also growth, but I am denying that the former is not growth. Therefore, the former is abiding by nature because it has been abiding by the nature of reality from the beginning, and it is also growth because it is nourished by conditions and will grow more and more. In this way, the habit of hearing, the undefiled seed, the difference of the six sense bases, is what is said from there.
