How could it be a single nature? It cannot be said so, because the nature of objects and aspects being completely uninterrupted and interrupted are different in themselves. Furthermore, the consciousness that takes rebirth in the mother's womb should not be the mind consciousness, because it is always thrown by the last afflicted mind of the intermediate state, like the sense faculties of the body. Because it is the nature of completely uninterrupted objects and aspects, it does not apprehend what is the object of the mind consciousness. Furthermore, if it is accepted that the mind consciousness that takes rebirth in the desire realm's mother's womb is the mind consciousness, then, is the mind consciousness that takes rebirth सर्व बीज (sarva bīja, all seeds, all seeds)? Or is the second mind consciousness that enters depending on it सर्व बीज (sarva bīja, all seeds, all seeds)? If it is the former, then it itself is also the Vipāka (resultant, 异熟) and also सर्व बीज (sarva bīja, all seeds, all seeds), therefore, for the Alaya-vijñāna (store consciousness, 阿赖耶识) that we accept, you are merely giving the name of rebirth consciousness, what is the use of us pursuing the name? If you say that the second mind consciousness that arises depending on it is सर्व बीज (sarva bīja, all seeds, all seeds), then, the object of the place from which it arises is not सर्व बीज (sarva bīja, all seeds, all seeds), let alone becoming सर्व बीज (sarva bīja, all seeds, all seeds) depending on it? Therefore, the consciousness that takes rebirth in the mother's womb is not the mind consciousness, but it is established as the Vipāka-vijñāna (resultant consciousness, 异熟识) called सर्व बीज (sarva bīja, all seeds, all seeds). Furthermore, if there is no Alaya-vijñāna (store consciousness, 阿赖耶识), then the sense faculties that have already taken rebirth cannot exist until the end of life through taming and so on, because there is no consciousness that completely holds them. Like a dead body. For this, for the time being, the consciousnesses of the sense faculties cannot become the holders of the body, because in this way, do they hold by focusing on the body, or by relying on it? The former is not reasonable, because the fault of external forms and so on will also become the nature held by the mind. If according to the latter, then the sense faculties will only be held by the mind, and the occurrence of acting together with the sense faculties and

The other future (consciousnesses) are only those that cannot be grasped by the mind, because they do not serve as the basis for sensory consciousness. For the senses, they can only grasp the senses that serve as the same basis, but not those that are not the same. Furthermore, the various consciousnesses of the senses arise in different places. Even if they can grasp the place from which they arise, they will become dust, etc., because they cannot grasp the other parts of the body. Therefore, they cannot be the holders of the body. The various consciousnesses of the mind are also not suitable, if it is said from the point of view of the basis or from the point of view of the object. It is not suitable from the point of view of the object, because this would be too extreme. It is also not suitable from the point of view of the basis, because it does not rely on the body. If it is said that this is because it holds the body as self and belonging to self, then in the five unconscious states, because there is no holder of the body, it will lead to death or decay, etc. Even in the conscious state, sometimes it cannot grasp, because when the various consciousnesses of the mind arise as virtuous, non-obscured, or unspecified, the various consciousnesses of the mind do not hold the body as self and belonging to self. Therefore, it can be determined that during the duration of life, there is a consciousness different from the acting consciousness that holds the body with the senses, and that is none other than the ālaya-vijñāna. The ālaya-vijñāna pervades all bodies with the senses, and it never ceases during the duration of life, therefore it is suitable as the holder of the body. Furthermore, if there is no ālaya-vijñāna, then the statement in the sutra, "Consciousness, name, and form exist relying on each other like a thatched house," would not be valid, because there is no other consciousness that can serve as the basis for name and form other than the ālaya-vijñāna. Furthermore, other than the ālaya-vijñāna, the other acting consciousnesses cannot serve as the food of consciousness by which sentient beings of the three realms exist. For example, the various consciousnesses of the senses in the formless realm
