It is not becoming contradictory to the Dharma. It is called non-pervasion. Therefore, it is reasonable that the various habits that are perfumed by various kinds of good and non-good, are not obscured, and completely abide in the nature of the unindicated. If so, how do various fruits such as good and non-good arise from these? Here, the teacher himself clearly shows it through the door of example. Thus, in the Compendium of the Great Vehicle, it says: If the habits are not different and not diverse, how can they be the cause of various different dharmas? For example, when cloth dyed with various kinds of madder is not put into a dye vat, it does not appear in various colors. When it is put into a dye vat, various different colors appear on the cloth. Similarly, the Alaya consciousness is not diverse at the time of habits, but when it tends to be seen as a dye vat for the manifestation of fruits, it shows immeasurable and boundless dharmas. This is the extremely subtle and extremely profound dependent origination in the Great Vehicle. That is what is said. This quotes the harm to the previous view. Why only show the example, and not show the reasoning that establishes it? Because the habits are not diverse, this has already been established by reasoning. And, when it is said that various different dharmas also arise from it, if there is doubt that it is contradictory for various fruits to arise from a non-different cause, then when the example is seen, that doubt will be eliminated, therefore the example itself is the establisher. How many kinds of seeds are there as described above? It is said: Outer, inner, and unclear, Sleep and the nature of the conventional, The ultimate truth, all of these, Are considered to be six kinds of seeds. The seed is divided into two types: outer seed and inner seed. Among them, the outer seeds are the roots of Utpala flowers and the seeds of barley, etc. The inner seed is the habit that exists in the Alaya consciousness. These themselves are divided into two unclear types, and two types of conventional and ultimate, divided into four types, thus becoming six types. Among them, the two unclear types are: unclear in complete defilement and complete purification, or

It is not clear about virtue and non-virtue. Conventional truth is the external seed, which is only nominally called the seed of sprouts, etc., but it is not actually so, because sprouts, etc., arise from the habitual imprints of the alaya. Ultimate truth is the inner seed, which itself is logically established as the cause and condition of all dharmas. Moreover, these are said to be the objects of nominal consciousness in order, and because they are able to withstand scrutiny. Another analysis of the difference between external and internal seeds is: "Momentary and co-emergent, it is considered to arise constantly, depending on certainty and conditions, accomplishing its own fruit." It is said that the external and internal seeds are momentary, because they depend on conditions to produce fruit in sequence. Otherwise, the production of fruit would not depend on conditions, because permanence cannot be changed by conditions. Therefore, fruits either arise simultaneously or do not arise sequentially at all. Moreover, it only arises simultaneously with its own fruit, not earlier or later, for example, if the fruit is present, then the cause is past, having ceased and no longer existing, so like a flower in the sky, it cannot be a cause; if the cause is present, then the fruit is future, because it is not real, so there is no action of the cause for it, therefore it should not be a fruit. To this, some commentators say that only those that are not simultaneous can become cause and effect, while those that are simultaneous are not. In the Elucidation of Hidden Meanings, it is said that in conventional truth there are also simultaneous cause and effect, such as a lamp and light; and there are also non-simultaneous ones, such as a seed and a sprout. Although it is said so, the teacher's intention seems to be simultaneity, as it is said: "How can the alaya consciousness and all afflicted dharmas be regarded as becoming each other's cause simultaneously?" For example, the arising of the flame of a lamp and the burning of the wick are mutually simultaneous, and the spear and the scabbard also rely on each other simultaneously without falling, similarly, here too it should be regarded as becoming each other's cause.
