Etc. are not desirable. Therefore, these are not the doors of karmic imprints. The arising of mind-consciousness is of the nature of virtue and non-virtue, therefore, they cause the former to leave karmic imprints on the latter. Since it itself arises with the aspect of self-grasping and manifestation, it also leaves the imprint of self-grasping and the imprint of manifestation. If that is the case, since mind-consciousness is interrupted in the five mindless states, the karmic imprints are also interrupted, so wouldn't the karma performed become futile? This fault does not exist. Because the mind-consciousness before falling asleep and before fainting, etc., the mind-consciousness that arises immediately after waking up again arises with karmic imprints. If you say, how does the result arise from a cause that has been extinguished for a long time? Why can't it be a cause? If you say it's because it's not a substance, then it's the same for the case where the cause is extinguished immediately. If you say that it is not the same because it is not a substance when the result arises, but it exists when it tends to arise, then it is the same for the former. For example, the mind-consciousness at the time of fainting, the very time when it arises, is the time when the later mind-consciousness tends to arise. Because if the opposing condition of fainting does not approach, then the former will arise. For example, when the result arises immediately after the cause is extinguished, the time when the cause is extinguished tending to arise is called the time when the result arises tending to arise. Therefore, the mind-consciousness at the time of fainting is able to connect its similar later consciousness, because it is a consciousness that is not separated from wrong views, just like the mind-consciousness of an ordinary person at the time of death. Even so, the reason for not connecting immediately is due to the special proximate cause of the body's transformation in the state of fainting, which temporarily becomes an obstacle to the arising of mind-consciousness. When that kind of body transformation is absent, then the later mind-consciousness will connect. Therefore, the result of karma is not in vain.
