Because of the similarity. Furthermore, if it is admitted that the alaya-vijñana, which has all the seeds, continues as long as samsara exists, then all the results, such as the entering consciousness, will arise simultaneously, and will never cease, because their cause is always present. If it is said that although the cause, the seed, exists, it does not always arise because the cooperating condition is not present, then if it is admitted that the cooperating condition also arises from a cause other than the alaya, then it contradicts the statement that the alaya is all the seeds, and it will also harm the tenet that all internal and external phenomena arise from the seeds of the alaya. If it is again said that it arises from the cause of the alaya, then why would the cooperating condition, which is considered to be such, not always arise? Because the cause is always present. To this, what other answer is there than "the second cooperating condition is not present"? To this, since only the previous constant is applied, the answer is not correct. Therefore, the elements themselves are the root of all causes and conditions, and since they never cease, it necessarily follows that all internal and external results will never cease. If there is no fault in admitting the alaya which has all the seeds, then what is unreasonable for the Samkhya school, which says that the chief one, which has all the powers, is the cause of all things? Because their ways are similar. If it is thought that the chief one is permanent and the alaya is impermanent, so they are not similar, then saying that the alaya is impermanent is just a word, and there is no reasoning to prove it, because the alaya itself is not established like its own proposition. In this way, it is equivalent to denying the alaya, and since the correct reasoning that it is impermanent is established, it is actually equivalent to admitting that it is permanent. Therefore, the distinction that the alaya is impermanent and the chief one is permanent is also unreasonable. Therefore, there is no inference to prove this. If it is said: "The sphere of beginningless time." and "The taking consciousness is deep and subtle."

Even if it is thought that this is the proof of the scriptures such as the earth, it is not reasonable as the meaning of the scriptures, because there is no reason to establish it, and it has the harm as mentioned above. Showing the meaning of not having a reason to establish and having harm is also not reasonable as the words of the omniscient, because it would be a fault that the speaker is not omniscient. Therefore, the scriptures should be interpreted as having a harmless meaning. Even those who admit the Alaya consciousness do not admit that it is an object of manifestation, so there is no need to strive to prove it. Thus, after observing such reasoning and other reasoning, the two lords of reasoning and the glorious Chandrakirti and some other great beings clearly do not accept the Alaya consciousness. As it is said in the Introduction to the Middle Way: "The Alaya consciousness exists, and the person also exists, and these aggregates also exist only." And it is said: "That which is said to be so profound, for those who cannot understand it." And in its commentary it is also said: "The self is permanent, the Alaya consciousness is impermanent, this is the difference." And so on, it is refuted. Examining the reasoning of the lord of reasoning, apart from merely appearing not to accept it, in their treatises, there is neither refutation nor proof of the Alaya consciousness. Also, in the Commentary on Valid Cognition, it is said: "Even if different kinds are produced simultaneously, because of one very bright mind, the ability is weakened, so it is not produced from other than the Alaya consciousness." What is said is also that for the sect that admits the Alaya consciousness as the cause of the manifest consciousness, in order to explain that there is no fault set up by others, the opponent standing on the side answers in a fair position, but not as his own sect, because there is no establishment of the Alaya consciousness at all, and in other occasions, the cause of the manifest consciousness is determined as the three: object, root, and attention. So, what do these teachers think is the basis for imprinting habits? Answer: The consciousness of the root is only the habit of the equal cause of producing the same kind of other by the previous moment to the later moment, but not these completely non-discriminating external objects imprinting good or bad.
