By means of discipline, abandoning discordant qualities, and by perfecting single-minded concentration for the sake of others, abandoning the desire for Hearers and Solitary Realizers. By perfecting the patience perfection with decisive understanding of the Dharma, abandoning fear of the unobtainable nature of reality. By perfecting the giving perfection, abandoning the discouragement of thinking, "I cannot fulfill this" when a beggar comes to beg. By perfecting the joy and diligence perfection in giving, abandoning the unpleasantness of spontaneously giving away all possessions. By perfecting the skillful means perfection, abandoning the thought of giving to all beggars even when one is poor oneself. Thus, abandoning six discordant qualities and cultivating six virtues, through twelve kinds of complete training, it is called the sixth ground. Why is it called the Manifest Ground? As it says in the scripture: 'Relying on the perfection of wisdom, Samsara and Nirvana, These two are manifest, Therefore, it is called the Manifest Ground.' Because all the Buddha's teachings are manifest. This is also, as before, through realizing unobtainability. The seventh ground teaches the abandonment of twenty things to be abandoned and the cultivation of twenty antidotes. Of these, there are two parts: the root text and the commentary. The first is 'I and,' meaning that by completely cutting off these twenty faults and possessing twenty antidotes, one obtains the seventh ground. The sutra says: 'A great Bodhisattva abiding on the seventh ground does not have twenty dharmas arise; what are the twenty? They are grasping at self, and so on.' The second part is: grasping at the self of the eater, and the mind that is of a despondent nature, and the life that abides in the same kind, and the person who connects the continuum in beings, and the annihilation that does not connect the future continuum after death, and the permanence that exists without change; these six are the common grasping of ordinary beings. The characteristics of samsara and nirvana, and the cause, which is a different lineage, and the aggregates that gather together in one direction of the same lineage, and the realms that are the source of the fruit, and the producer that is the door for the arising of mind and mental factors, and abiding in the three realms such as the desire realm from the perspective of the appearance of grasper and grasped, and being completely attached to abandoning these, and the mind.

With regard to having the meaning of land and attaining omniscience, always being disheartened, and clinging to the Buddha who has the characteristics of marks and signs, and to the Dharma of the twelve branches of scripture, and to the Sangha of the four pairs and eight types of beings, and to manifestly clinging to the discipline of abandoning unfavorable factors, these are common with the Hearers. The habit of manifestly clinging to things exists in one's own mindstream, arguing with emptiness, and one's own retinue clinging to things, expressing contradictory clinging, these should be completely abandoned. Having separated from twenty such faults, and being propelled by the meaning of the Dharma that is the opposite of that, the twenty aspects of complete purification that will appear below are called the seventh ground. Why is it called "Gone Afar"? Because it is connected with the path of one going. As it is said in the "Gone Afar Ground." Because the path of one going is connected with the eighth ground, it is because it has passed very far from the precipice of samsara and nirvana. That is also, as before, realized without clinging. The second part has two parts, root and commentary. The first part is: In order to show the twenty antidotal Dharmas propelled by the twenty things to be abandoned, it is said to know the three doors of liberation. The so-called "propelled by meaning" is because the previous twenty things to be abandoned were abandoned, and just because they were abandoned, they were propelled by the meaning of the twenty antidotal Dharmas, so it should be known that the complete purification of the former and latter are not different. The sutra says: The great bodhisattva abiding on the seventh ground should completely perfect these twenty Dharmas, what are the twenty? To completely perfect emptiness, and so on. The second part is: Through knowing emptiness, in which all Dharmas are without self, and the signless in nirvana, which is without elaboration, and the absence of longing for contaminated Dharmas, these are respectively the antidotes to clinging to self, sentient beings, and life. And abandoning killing and so on, in the ten paths of virtuous action, not clinging to the three circles such as the one to be killed, as the antidote to clinging to a person. And for all beings tormented by many sufferings of birth, the antidote to clinging to the cessation of birth. And not clinging to things as true, as the antidote to clinging to permanence. Samsara and nirvana
