Therefore, it should be understood, so it is declared first. Origin is like the cause of disease that should be abandoned, so it is declared second. Cessation is like being free from disease that should be manifested, so it is declared third. Path is like good medicine that should be relied upon as a means to it, so it is declared last. Or, in terms of who suffers, how they suffer, who attains happiness, and how they attain happiness, the truths are arranged in order. This is also a summary. Therefore, the order of explanation of these four noble truths is also that who suffers is the first. How they suffer is the second. From the perspective of the dark side, who attains happiness is the third. How they attain happiness is the fourth, like disease, the cause of disease, being free from disease, and medicine. Another way of saying it is that the order of the truths should be arranged separately according to the order in which worldly suffering arises. Like this, when worldly people first encounter any kind of suffering, they will think about it. After that, they think about its cause. After that, they think about liberation from it. After that, they think about the method of liberation from it. That's what was said. Second, regarding the meaning of the limbs, the first of the four is the teaching on the truth of suffering. What is being taught? It is the knowable suffering. How is it done? Without deviating from the conventional and ultimate truths, from form and so on, emptiness, which has become the result of afflictions, and the perfection of wisdom that realizes it, etc., are in reality the nature of suchness, free from elaboration. It should be known that it is one nature, in the manner of learning. The general purpose is for all sentient beings to transcend suffering, etc., and in particular, to abandon the attachment to the appearance of suffering, impermanence, etc., as knowable. The sutra says: Shariputra, if a Bodhisattva strives for the emptiness of form, it is called striving. The second is the teaching on the truth of origin. What is being taught? It is the origin that should be abandoned. How is it done? Without deviating from the two truths, form included by contaminated causes

Form, etc., is the arising of what was previously non-existent, and the cessation of what was previously existent is cessation. It is not a phenomenon that is completely defiled by attachment, etc., or purified by faith, etc. It is emptiness, free from elaboration, and even form, etc., becomes the cause of existence. Those are non-different in the ultimate sense, in the manner of instruction. The purpose is, in general, as before, and in particular, as an antidote to the manifest clinging to arising as something to be abandoned. The sutra is: "Is form of the nature of arising? Or is it not truly seen to be of the nature of ceasing?" The third is the admonition on the truth of cessation. Admonition. Where? On the cessation to be realized. How? Not deviating from the two truths, the nature of mind, emptiness, free from adventitious stains, is nominally designated as cessation. For that, the five aggregates, eighteen elements, and twelve sources, represented by form, do not exist. Therefore, the twelve links of dependent origination, represented by ignorance, do not arise, nor do they cease. From stream-enterer to solitary realizer, and even the fully realized Buddha, and between the abandonment and the complete enlightenment, there is nothing. The reason is that the characteristic of conditioned phenomena is arising and ceasing, the characteristic of abandonment and antidote is defilement and purification, the characteristic of states is decline and growth, and so on, being free from the characteristic of time such as past and future, in the manner of instruction. The purpose is as an antidote to clinging to the realization of cessation. The sutra is: "Shariputra, emptiness does not arise or cease, is not completely defiled, and is not purified." The fourth is the admonition on the truth of the path. Admonition. Where? On the truth of the path to be relied upon. How? Here there are three: the path and the establishment of reason, and the admonition on definite emergence. The first is: not deviating from the two truths, the six perfections such as generosity, and the bodhisattva's selflessness, in the ultimate sense, mutually possess the object of meditation and the meditator, and understanding that not possessing them is not the opposite, in the manner of establishing it. Because the perfections such as generosity are known as the path to attain Buddhahood, therefore, it is for abandoning the clinging to it. The sutra is: "Shariputra, when a bodhisattva practices the perfection of wisdom, the perfection of generosity with selflessness."
