The third is the Truth of Cessation, which also has two aspects. The first is the cessation of separation from suffering and all (afflictions), which is manifested through the benefits of the result, such as cessation by abandoning all afflictions, pacification by abandoning all suffering, and being excellent because there is nothing more desirable than this. Having reached there, one does not regress, and it is permanent and virtuous, therefore it is liberation. Here, because it is definite liberation, "definite liberation" is the aspect of cessation connected to action. Because this definitely liberates, "definite liberation" is the aspect of the path connected to the agent. If the path is also to be manifested, why is it said that only cessation is to be manifested? Because children grasp at the aggregates as self, and fearing their cessation, they are afraid of the cessation where all suffering ceases, and therefore do not rely on the means to attain it. When the cessation where all suffering is pacified is solemnly shown, they will not be afraid of cessation, but will joyfully accept it, and will strive to attain its means. Therefore, cessation is to be manifested. As it is said in the Compendium of Topics: "To be manifested means to be directly realized. If it is directly realized, one will not be afraid of cessation, but will joyfully accept it, therefore the Truth of Cessation is to be manifested." The second is: where does cessation occur, what is ceased, and by what is it ceased? The first is: the nature of mind, emptiness that is naturally pure. The second is: the suffering and the origin of suffering to be abandoned. The third is: the Truth of the Path. Therefore, conventionally, through the power of cultivating the path, the nature of mind, being naturally pure, is merely the separation from the stains of affliction, and is called the Truth of Cessation. As the Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning says: When things arise and perish, how does one examine their cessation? Likewise, the noble ones also assert cessation like an illusion. Fourth is the path, which also has two aspects. The first is: what is the antidote that abandons suffering and all? It should be shown from the perspective of the benefits of the cause, such as the path. Among them, it is the path that leads to the city of liberation, because it truly realizes the nature of mind and objects,

Practice, because it is the antidote to opposing factors, therefore it is reason. Because it can place permanence and virtue in a place where they are not devoured by demons, therefore it is definite arising. Understanding suffering, etc., will not arise if the path is not relied upon, therefore, the path itself should be relied upon or cultivated. Regarding this, the Compendium states: In order to accomplish the three meanings mentioned above, it is necessary to cultivate the path, therefore, the truth of the path is what should be cultivated. Second, by what does one know suffering? What abandons the origin? What realizes cessation? What cultivates the path? In short, it is the wisdom that realizes selflessness, together with its associated factors. Among these, in the two paths of seeing and cultivation, because they possess the three aspects of purity, clarity, and antidote, they are the nature of the path truth. The path of accumulation and joining is the cause, and the path of no more learning is the result, therefore it is called the path. In the commentary on the Abhidharmakosha, this distinction should also be understood as being made in terms of the truth of the path and its retinue. Thus. Second, regarding the meaning of the words: Why is it called the Noble Truth? Because the nature of these sufferings, origins, etc., is seen as it is by the noble ones, and not by ordinary people. Therefore, it is called the Noble Truth. As it is said in the sutra: Ordinary people are like the palm of the hand, they do not understand even a hair of conditioned suffering. Noble ones are like the eye, they can deeply understand its meaning. Thus it is said. Why is it called Truth? The Compendium states: Because it is not contrary to the teachings, and seeing it leads to purity, therefore it is Truth. Thus it is said. The meaning of being in accordance with the teachings is: Suffering, etc., as taught in the teachings, even if those who follow reason analyze in detail, they can only exist as they are, and cannot change their form. Third, regarding the determination of number: All of this is determined by the two aspects of what should be abandoned, pervasive afflictions, and what should be attained, pure liberation. And each of these aspects is determined to be two parts, cause and effect. Therefore, in the Four Truths, the number of things is fixed. Fourth, the order of these truths is: taught in accordance with the order of realization. For example, suffering is an inexhaustible disease.
