Furthermore, regarding the two antidotes of abandoning a portion and abandoning completely, the first is the path of seeing, which is shown through expounding the qualities of this life and the next, and is of great benefit. The second is the two paths of meditation, the 'doing' and the 'doer'; the first is the 'doing' of complete pacification and so forth, and the second is the path of meditation of the impure nature of the mundane that is attained after, and the path of meditation of the pure nature of non-conceptual absorption. The first of these two has three aspects, the first of which is the path of aspiration that generates merit that has not been generated, and the first of its two benefits is aspiration, and so on. The second is that, in order to generate the joy of the bodhisattva who meditates on it, it is praised, honored, and extolled in three ways, in order: small, medium, and large. The second, the cause of generating merit, is the aspiration that transforms into a limb of enlightenment, which is aspiration and so on. The third is the rejoicing that increases merit more and more, which is the mind of rejoicing and so on. The second is the unobstructed path that is the actual antidote to abandoning the opposing side, and the path of liberation that manifests the liberation of what has been abandoned, or the two of manifesting qualities and completely purifying the opposing side, which are called accomplishment and utter purity in order, and the activity is the path of meditation and so on. The determination of the nature of each of these will be explained in their respective chapters, so I will not elaborate here. Second, the way it shows the path is: The wise bodhisattvas, The knowledge of the path is explained as such. So it is said. The eleven dharmas of this section, and the ten dharmas of the first section, such as the generation of bodhicitta, are the same in that they lack nothing of the cause of omniscience, so why is it said here that it is the knowledge of the bodhisattva's path, and there that it is the all-knowing of the Sage? The ten dharmas, such as the generation of bodhicitta, in the first section, in order to represent the object by the object, are shown from the perspective of the object of omniscience, so the Sage is mentioned. And here, in order to know the cause of obtaining omniscience, it is shown from the perspective of the cause, so the wise bodhisattvas are shown.

Here, should a Bodhisattva understand the paths of the three vehicles through learning and reflection, in the manner of other-knowing? Or should they be understood in the manner of self-knowing arising from meditation? According to those who believe that there is no characteristic base consciousness in the continuum of a Bodhisattva, it must be admitted that the paths of Hearers and Solitary Realizers are understood through learning and reflection, in the manner of other-knowing, because the paths of Hearers and Solitary Realizers are pervaded by characteristic base consciousness. However, this is also unreasonable, because the knowledge of learning and reflection is conceptual, and therefore the object is unclear and obscured. In this way, the Bodhisattva's path cannot be explained to others without error, as the Commentary on Valid Cognition states: "That which arises from means, its cause is obscured; to explain that is deception." If someone says that it can be explained without error by relying on reasoning, then in that case, the way that noble Bodhisattvas teach the Dharma to others is like that of children, and they will not be able to grasp the dispositions and thoughts of others as they are. As it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras: "Relying on reasoning is uncertain, non-pervasive, and of the nature of conventional birth; thus, it is said to rely on children." Therefore, speculation based on reasoning is like the behavior of children. Therefore, all three paths should be understood in the manner of self-knowing arising from meditation. In the explanation of "knowledge in the grounds of Hearers and Solitary Realizers, and passing beyond by seeing," the word "knowledge" is mentioned to exclude knowledge by inference, and the word "seeing" is mentioned to exclude erroneous knowledge. Moreover, in the Sutra on the Knowledge of the Path, it is said: "All paths, whatever is the path of Hearers, whatever is the path of Solitary Realizers, and whatever is the path of Buddhas, should be generated." If the paths of Hearers and Solitary Realizers are generated in the continuum of a Bodhisattva, will they fall into the grounds of Hearers and Solitary Realizers by manifesting a path devoid of skillful means? It is not so, because in the continuum of Hearers and Solitary Realizers, the direct realization of the sixteen aspects, such as the four truths and selflessness, arises devoid of skillful means, clinging to characteristics, and associated with them, and therefore it leads to nirvana and becomes an opponent of the Bodhisattva's path. However, the continuum of a Bodhisattva is seized by skillful means and special wisdom, so even if it leads to nirvana, it is not so. Bodhisattva
