Although it is not something to be abandoned on the path. However, from the opposite of realizing the sixteen aspects such as impermanence of the Four Noble Truths, it is established as the (manifest) realization of Hearers and Solitary Realizers, because it is the antidote to the afflictive obscuration among the two obscurations, and is a type of manifest realization that accomplishes the fruit of Nirvana. The third is the Ground Wisdom, which is divided into the nature of the nine dharmas, and the way in which it shows the Ground Wisdom, in two ways. The first has six parts: the nature of the Ground Wisdom, the reasons for nearness and distance, the dissimilar aspects, the distinctions of antidotes, the practice of meditating on the Ground Wisdom, and the result of realizing the equality of that practice—the Path of Seeing, etc. The first is: the Prajnaparamita of the Ground Wisdom of Bodhisattvas does not abide at the extreme of existence, samsara, because they know the equality of the three times, and because wisdom sees the faults of samsara. Nor does it abide at the extreme of peaceful Nirvana, because compassion accomplishes the benefit of others. Conversely, the Ground Wisdom of Hearers and Solitary Realizers is shown to abide at either extreme of existence or peace. The second is: establishing the reasons just mentioned, why does the Ground Wisdom of Hearers and Solitary Realizers abide in existence or peace? Because they are distant from the nature of non-abiding Nirvana—the Fruit Mother, and because they are not skilled in the means of understanding the two truths, they grasp at characteristics in the ground, path, and fruit. Why does the Ground Wisdom of Bodhisattvas not abide in existence or peace? Because Bodhisattvas are not distant from the Mother of Non-abiding Nirvana, and because they are skilled in the means of understanding the two truths, they do not grasp at characteristics in anything. The third is: the Ground Wisdom of Hearers and Solitary Realizers, because it arises devoid of skillful means and wisdom in the manner described above, is something to be abandoned by Bodhisattvas, and is a dissimilar aspect. The Ground Wisdom of Bodhisattvas, however, is held by skillful means and wisdom, and is therefore something to be adopted, and is an antidote aspect. Here, the grasping at characteristics of the path of Hearers and Solitary Realizers is shown as Ground Wisdom, but nowadays others consider the nature of grasping at characteristics to be different. If Hearers and Solitary Realizers grasp at the characteristics of impermanence, etc., even in meditative equipoise, then because it is accompanied by conceptual thought, they will not actually realize the aspects of the truth of impermanence, etc., as it is said: "Accompanied by conceptual thought, it does not have the clarity of meaning." Thus, conceptual thought does not give rise to clarity of the object.

It is for this reason. In this way, it would follow that the afflictive obscurations could not be eliminated. Therefore, in the meditative equipoise of Hearers and Solitary Realizers, although impermanence and other meanings are directly seen, there is no grasping at characteristics. However, it does not act as an antidote to grasping at impermanence and other things as dharmas, because previously, during the time of hearing and contemplation, the selflessness of phenomena was not ascertained, and because it was not familiarized through meditation, in the post-meditation state, the strength of this causes the arising of grasping at the characteristics of impermanence and other dharmas. Therefore, it is not because it is bound by grasping at characteristics that it becomes the nature of grasping at characteristics called the basis-consciousness of grasping at characteristics. What Bodhisattvas abandon also belongs to that aspect of grasping at characteristics, but it is not abandoning the aspect of contemplating the antidote to the path as impermanence and so on, because that is for generating even more excellent qualities in one's own continuum. Fourth, in this way, the basis-consciousness of Bodhisattvas is free from grasping at characteristics, and the Hearers and Solitary Realizers arise in connection with grasping at characteristics. Bodhisattvas cultivate yoga by preventing attachment to the nature of the basis-dharmas such as form, and to the distinctions such as impermanence. Hearers and Solitary Realizers do the opposite of this, cultivating yoga through manifest attachment to the nature of the basis and the distinctions such as impermanence. Fifth, the equality of the yoga of Bodhisattvas is the prevention of pride in the nature of form and so on, as well as characteristics, elaborations, and thoughts. The equality of the yoga of Hearers and Solitary Realizers is the opposite of this, which is to assume form and so on as objects and object-possessors. Sixth, regarding the path of seeing of Hearers and so on, some Panditas and others think that there is nothing to be included, because the sound of "ati" means supreme, so it shows that the seeing of Hearers is the supreme path, and therefore the realization of the path of seeing is the most excellent of the six dharmas. That is what they say. Here, what is the path of seeing that is included in the summary? Is it the implied path of Hearers, or the directly shown path of Bodhisattvas? If it is the former, then in the detailed explanation of the branches, that should also be directly shown, because the body and the branches must be consistent. If it is the latter, then it is not reasonable to say Hearers, if you ask. Although previous people have not done any analysis on this, I think it takes the implied path of Hearers. To that
