This is because in the ultimate truth, they do not have a true self-nature. The sutra says: Shariputra, form is devoid of the nature of form, up to and including non-mixture. The aspect is that form, etc., do not truly exist in the ultimate truth, but merely in name, it is realized that form, etc., appear as its self-nature. Shariputra, characteristics are also devoid of the self-nature of characteristics. The essence is also devoid of the nature of essence. The object of the middle level is that form, etc., are distinguished in the ultimate truth by having no birth at the former limit and no necessary occurrence at the latter limit. The sutra says: Shariputra, form is empty by the nature of form, and in it, neither birth nor cessation is perceived. The aspect is that the three doors and their bases are purified, and it is the wisdom that realizes the nature of all phenomena. The sutra says: It is close to omniscient wisdom, and as it becomes closer to omniscient wisdom, the body, speech, mind, and characteristics do not generate a mind with desire. The object of great forbearance is that form, etc., are distinguished by not having characteristics such as permanence or impermanence. When practicing the Great Vehicle Prajnaparamita, if one is not skilled in means, practicing with form is practicing with characteristics. The aspect is that it does not rely on the characteristics of form, etc., therefore it is free from reliance, and it is not believed by faith-based attention, but is realized without awareness by suchness-based attention. When practicing the Great Vehicle Prajnaparamita, there is no dwelling in form, especially no faith, no omniscience, etc. The second is explanation, and the explanation is divided into two parts. First, the extensive explanation: The object of small forbearance is that form, etc., have no self-nature in the ultimate truth. All phenomena are determined to be of two types: characteristics and bases. The nature of the characteristics, such as the changeability of form, and the nature of the bases, such as form, etc., are of one taste in emptiness in the ultimate truth. The aspect is that in the face of beings who cling to things as real, form, etc., are not real in the ultimate truth, but are merely appearances in name.
