The eleven dharmas here, and the ten dharmas such as the generation of bodhicitta in the first chapter, if they are all the same without lacking the cause of omniscience, why is it said here that it is the path knowledge of bodhisattvas, and there that it is the omniscience of the capable one? The ten dharmas such as the generation of bodhicitta, in the first chapter, because they represent the object with the object, they are shown from the difference of the object of omniscience, so it is said "capable one". Here, in order to know the cause of attaining omniscience, it is shown from the difference of the cause, so it is said "wise bodhisattvas". Here, does the bodhisattva understand the paths of the three vehicles through hearing and thinking, in the form of other-knowing? Or should it be understood in the form of self-knowing arising from meditation? According to those who believe that there is no basis-knowledge nature in the continuum of bodhisattvas, it must be admitted that the paths of the hearers and solitary realizers are understood through hearing and thinking, in the form of other-knowing, because the paths of the hearers and solitary realizers are pervaded by the basis-knowledge nature. But that is also unreasonable, like this, the wisdom of hearing and thinking is conceptual, because the object is not clear and is hidden, the path of the bodhisattva cannot be truly explained to others, as it is said in the Commentary on Valid Cognition: "Born from means, that cause is hidden, to say that is deception." That's how it is. If it is said that it is truly explained by relying on reasoning? In that case, when the noble bodhisattvas teach the Dharma to others, it is the same as children, and they cannot truly follow the dispositions and thoughts of others, as it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras: "Discrimination relies on reason, uncertain and not pervasive, the nature of arising from convention, it is said to rely on childish wisdom." It is said that discrimination relying on reasoning is the behavior of children. Therefore, all three paths are understood in the form of self-knowing arising from meditation, on the grounds of hearers and solitary realizers, in the explanation of "knowing" and "crossing over after seeing and contemplating", because it is said "knowing", it excludes knowing by inference, and because it is said "seeing", it excludes mistaken knowing, and in the Sutra of Path Knowledge it is also said, what is the path of the hearers, what is the path of the solitary realizers, and all the paths of what is the path of the Buddha arise

Because it was said so. If the path of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers arises in the mindstream of a Bodhisattva, then it becomes the manifestation of a path without skillful means, will it cause one to fall into the state of Hearers and Solitary Realizers? No, it won't. Because the direct realization of understanding the sixteen aspects such as the four truths and no-self, in the mindstream of Hearers and Solitary Realizers, due to lacking skillful means and clinging to characteristics, and arising in connection with them, it leads to Nirvana and becomes an opposing factor to the Bodhisattva path. But in the mindstream of a Bodhisattva, because it is held by skillful means and special wisdom, it will not lead to Nirvana, nor is it what is to be abandoned on the Bodhisattva path. However, from the opposite of understanding the sixteen aspects such as the four truths and impermanence, it is established as the (direct) realization of Hearers and Solitary Realizers, because it is the antidote to afflictive obscurations among the two obscurations, and the type of direct realization that accomplishes the fruit of Nirvana. Third is the Base Knowledge. Regarding the nature of the nine dharmas, and how it indicates the Base Knowledge, there are two aspects. The first has six aspects: the essence of the Base Knowledge, the reasons for nearness and distance, the distinctions between opposing factors and antidotes, the practice of meditating on the Base Knowledge, and the result of realizing the equality of that practice - the Path of Seeing, etc. First is: The Prajnaparamita of the Base Knowledge of Bodhisattvas does not dwell on the edge of samsara, because it knows the equality of the three times, and sees the faults of samsara with wisdom. Nor does it dwell on the edge of peaceful Nirvana, because it performs the benefit of others with compassion. Conversely, the Base Knowledge of Hearers and Solitary Realizers is shown to dwell on either side of samsara or Nirvana. Second is: Stating the reasons just mentioned, why does the Base Knowledge of Hearers and Solitary Realizers dwell on samsara and Nirvana? Because they are far from the nature of non-abiding Nirvana, the Fruit Mother, because they are not skilled in the means of understanding the two truths, and therefore cling to characteristics in the base, path, and fruit. Why does the Base Knowledge of Bodhisattvas not dwell on samsara and Nirvana? Because Bodhisattvas are not far from the Mother of Non-abiding Nirvana, because they are skilled in the means of understanding the two truths, and therefore do not cling to characteristics to anything. Third is: The Base Knowledge of Hearers and Solitary Realizers, because it arises in a way that lacks skillful means and wisdom as described above, is therefore what is to be abandoned by Bodhisattvas.
