If someone thinks that even without this treatise, one can realize Buddhahood, then the fundamental necessity of this treatise would not have any special significance. However, this is not the case, because what this treatise explains is that externalists such as Ishvara and Vishnu, as well as Hearers, Solitary Realizers, Arhats, and all internal and external phenomena, without having cultivated the lack of self of persons and the lack of self of phenomena, through the wisdom of hearing and so on, cannot gradually experience it in the initial, middle, and final stages. As it is said in the Ornament for Clear Realization: "Those who pervade and the powerful have not tasted, the cause abiding immeasurably, those who have become the crown of the world, have not experienced it. This pure nectar of truth, with pure great compassion as its common cause, other than the Tathagatas, who is capable of enjoying it?" Thus it is proclaimed. Third, is establishing the connection. Where does the connection exist? It exists in the adornment as the expresser and the eight clear realizations as the expressed. How is the connection established? It is established through the treatise as the means and the expressed as the way to accomplish the means. By whom is it established? By the venerable (Maitreya). If someone asks, by whom will such an expressed be clearly realized? By Bodhisattvas and those who perfectly accomplish the benefit of others, because they will not be obstructed by demons and do not rely on others, therefore they can completely eliminate all faults. Then, through what means will it be clearly realized? Regarding this, there are two causes, the distant cause and the near cause, first is "establishing," that is, establishing the connection. Where is it established? It is established on the memory consciousness that does not forget what was previously experienced. How is it established? The wisdom of hearing and thinking that has experienced the essence of the sutras is established in an extremely clear way, and in the way of establishing habits in the mind stream. Where is it established? It is established on the complete essence of the extensive, medium, and concise Prajnaparamita Sutras. And where do these essences exist? They exist in the nature of the eight clear realizations. When practicing these clear realizations, it includes the actions of generating the aspiration for Bodhicitta and entering the Bodhisattva path, as well as the actions of practicing the ten Paramitas such as generosity, therefore fundamentally it is said to be the nature of the ten practices of Dharma. The ancients thought that the ten practices of Dharma are the ten Dharmas of omniscience, regarding this, in the commentary it says: "By Bodhicitta etc. first holding, by generosity etc. holding the last, the six perfections..."

Therefore, it is explained as being of the essence. If the way is what? Very well, in such a way that it is not forgotten in other lifetimes, but in the manner of following. Secondly, like this, by keeping mindfulness well and practicing repeatedly, transcendent wisdom arises. The characteristic of realizing that the Dharmadhatu, form, and other great things are universally present, from the Joyful Ground and so forth up to the Cloud of Dharma Ground, through the stages of realization and manifestation. Thirdly, concerning the nature of the treatise to be entered, there are actually three statements. The extensive one is divided into eight Abhisamayas for faith, the intermediate one is condensed into six for faith, and the concise one is condensed into three for faith. The first includes the summarized meaning, the organization of the body. The word meaning is the extensive explanation of the branches. In the first of the two, the connection between the two is: Like this, after narrating the branches of entry, the relationship, etc., below that, the body organization of the Ornament of Clear Realization is taught. Connect it like that. Secondly, there are five statements about it: necessity, summarized meaning, placing it nearby, explaining it in summary, and the reason for not elaborating extensively. First, the necessity of the body organization is twofold: it is easy for the listener to grasp, and it is easy for the speaker to explain. First, in order for those to be tamed to easily understand all the meanings of the treatise with few words, just as a horse running on a marked course runs without obstruction, later the meanings of the extensive explanation of the branches will be understood in an unconfused order. Secondly, the meaning of the treatise is divided into body organization, also because it is seen that it is easy to explain in the extensive explanation of the branches in a way that is consistent with it and the order is not confused, just like a charioteer who sees the course, is mentally strong, and able to control the horse. Secondly, it is shown summarily and extensively through fifteen verses. Thirdly, the body is shown summarily and extensively explained. In the first of the two, there are: what is to be said and what can be said are shown summarily. The number of verses that can be said is extensively explained. In the first of the two, without distinguishing between what is to be known and what is imputed, Prajnaparamita is: the truth of the eight things of the nature of the eight Abhisamayas of the meaning to be known, that is, not inverted or completely
