It is for the sake of entering. Furthermore, knowable things, as the subject term, do not have the function of actually establishing the probandum as an internal member, because the function of actually establishing the probandum as an internal member exists perfectly only in the three modes. The subject term also does not have the function of arousing mindfulness of the three modes, because the function of arousing mindfulness of the three modes exists perfectly only in the sign term of the three modes themselves. If some commentators on the Compendium say: The subject term is not said to be a member of proof through arousing mindfulness of the three modes, because without showing the object of the action of the sign entering, there is no reason for the argument to enter, therefore, the subject term only shows the objects of the action of the sign entering, and from this it is considered that there is a function of establishing the probandum. If you say so, it has already been explained that even if this is not the case, the subject term is the basis for the sign term to enter, therefore, for this side that considers the subject term to be a member of proof, it has already been answered with "that is known through doubt," etc. Furthermore, knowable things, as a member of inference for others, it is not necessary to actually show the object of the action of the sign entering, because even if the object of the action of the sign entering is not actually shown, just saying "sound is produced, and whatever is produced is impermanent" will cause the mind to realize that sound is destroyed. Therefore, even if the subject term is not actually shown, there is no obstacle to establishing the probandum, therefore, the teacher said that if any of the three modes are not shown, then the members of the proof statement are incomplete, but it is not said that not showing the subject term is a fault of the proof statement. Others' schools consider the subject term to be a member of the proof statement, and this shows a refutation in terms of contradictory commitments, that is, if the subject term is a member of the proof statement, then the definition of the proposition that the wise say "the probandum is the proposition to be stated" is too broad, like this, if the subject is proof, then saying the subject is also not reasonably a member of the proof statement, and if the subject is proof, then saying that the unestablished that has become proof also becomes the definition of the proposition, therefore, for saying that the example and the sign are unestablished, it also becomes a name.

Because of being complete, it will become a thesis (dharmaṃvac). If you say that you must also accept that stating what is to be established (sādhyaṃvac) is the characteristic of a thesis, then that fault is the same for you as well. Then, proponents of valid cognition and Dharmakīrti, your statement that "stating what is to be established is a thesis" is the characteristic of a thesis, is like a fallacious reason (hetvābhāsa), because the example and the proof are unestablished (asiddha), and stating that the example and the proof are unestablished is also a thesis. Because of "stating what is to be established," this fault should not occur to yourself, because according to your view, stating that the example and the proof are unestablished, is merely stating the unestablished as the aspect of the proof, and not stating what is to be established. That very establishment of the doctrine is, that dharma, without the differentiating term "not being a proof," even if generally stating "stating what is to be established is a thesis" as the characteristic of a thesis, there will be no doubt that stating the unestablished example and proof is a thesis, because stating the unestablished example and proof, and the words of the thesis, are merely expressing the unestablished that has become what is to be established and what is to be proven, and the types are extremely different. Generally speaking, mutual doubt will arise for things of the same type, but mutual doubt will not arise for things of extremely different types. If you say that those two are not different types, but are of the same type only in terms of stating the unestablished, then stating the unestablished example and proof will cause doubt about being a thesis. Therefore, knowable phenomena, the potter makes a pot, because it is what is to be established, it will become a fallacy to doubt that everything that states the unestablished is a thesis. If you say that in the views of others who consider the subject term to be a part of the statement of proof, there is no fault of stating the unestablished example and proof becoming a thesis, because the unestablished is stated. Generally speaking, because an already established statement is a part of the proof. If that is the case, then how can the subject term that shows what is to be established be a part of the proof? Because the unestablished is stated. Thus, after explaining the reason why the subject term of one's own system is not a proof, refuting the reason why the subject term of another's system is not a proof is, some who connect the reasoning through the methods of many learned sons, etc., first are those who possess reasoning, etc.
