If it is said that it is so, then the later consciousness will not transfer to other external objects. What is the reason for this? Because those previous experiencing consciousnesses, as the subject of debate, since the later consciousnesses do not hold you, how will they hold other external objects? They will not hold, because you are the self-aspect held by those consciousnesses, that is, the object held, and you are closer to arising those consciousnesses than external objects. If it is said that because external objects are close, the previous consciousnesses hinder the arising of the later consciousnesses, therefore the later consciousnesses will transfer to the external, then, as the subject of debate, the part of the previous consciousness, when arising the later consciousnesses that focus on itself, besides the internal, which external part will be the object? It will not, because you are the nature of arising the later consciousnesses that focus on the self, determined from your own cause. Furthermore, as the object of knowledge, merely because external objects are close, consciousness cannot hinder the arising of experiencing itself, this is impossible. If it is not impossible, but possible, then when external objects are close, any person with the five aggregates will not experience consciousness, because for a person with the five aggregates, there is no time when external objects are not close. Therefore, the consciousness of a person with the five aggregates, as the subject of debate, will not even have the memory of recalling oneself, because you do not have the root of memory—experience. Therefore, without the cause—experience, there is the effect—memory, this statement is truly absurd. If it is said that because the sense consciousnesses and others have the object held—external objects, therefore the later consciousness can transfer to the external, but those present conceptual thoughts that take past, future, etc., as non-existent objects, as the subject of debate, it is impossible to now contemplate and hold past, future, etc., because for them, there is no cause to transfer to the holding object, because they have never been close to your holding object. If it is said that the ability of the previous consciousnesses to arise the later consciousnesses that focus on the self gradually diminishes, then the later consciousness will transfer to other external objects, then, the consciousness that has transferred to external objects, as the subject of debate, self-arising

How can it be that the immediately preceding condition that is the agent of [something] becoming existent is nonexistent? Because the power of your arising in the mind of the immediately preceding condition of yourself has been exhausted and is nonexistent. The pervasion is: since it is impossible for a later mind to arise when the earlier mind is without power. The reason for this is that beings' consciousnesses are particularly attached to other objects, such as beautiful forms, so when the power of the immediately preceding condition that generates the knowledge that grasps other objects, such as sounds, is diminished, the arising of the knowledge that grasps other objects, such as sounds, is not cognized by valid cognition. If some say to this: the reasoning just stated is the cause of the all-ground entering into knowledge, so it is harmful to the assertion that many dissimilar types of knowledge arise simultaneously. If the all-ground is the cause of entering into knowledge, then since there is also an all-ground in the continuum of consciousness that is attached to beautiful forms, etc., it would follow that knowledge that grasps other objects, such as sounds, would arise. If so, the reasoning just stated does not harm such an assertion, as it shows. A person who is attached to beautiful forms, etc., as a subject, in general, although many similar types of knowledge arise simultaneously from the all-ground at times, there is a reason why knowledge that grasps other objects, such as sounds, does not arise from the current all-ground of one's own continuum, because one mind that is extremely clear and particularly attached to beautiful forms, etc., at present in one's own continuum has diminished the power of the current all-ground of one's own continuum to generate knowledge that grasps other objects, such as sounds. Furthermore, establishing the tenet of non-mind without a prior mind, if the arising of later knowledge does not depend on prior knowledge, then the mind, those prior knowledges, entering into the ability to generate later knowledge would not be the same, because the later knowledges would necessarily not depend on other prior ones. If that were the case, then even when the mind is attached to beautiful forms, etc., other knowledge that grasps sounds, etc., would arise. Furthermore, knowable phenomena, as a subject, the arising of later knowledge depending on prior knowledge is extremely established, because many conceptual minds arise successively, not simultaneously. If the Vaibhashikas say: the cause of knowledge, the mind, is a single permanent atom, so when it enters the door of the nose sense and is attached to other objects, smells, then to other objects and senses
