It follows! Because wisdom cannot be established merely through things themselves. Therefore, knowable phenomena, you must concede that since wisdom cannot be established merely through things apart from self-cognizing wisdom, there is no way that wisdom can be established. Because if that wisdom is not established by valid cognition, then things themselves cannot be fully established by valid cognition. Furthermore, it is also unreasonable to establish wisdom in the mind-streams of others through signs such as speech and movement, because speech and movement, etc., you must concede that: having manifestly established wisdom in one's own mind-stream and seeing that you arise from it, it will not be inferred that others' mind-streams associated with you have mind, because in my own mind-stream, your connection with wisdom is not seen by valid cognition. Furthermore, even if sense consciousnesses can be established in one's own mind-stream through external signs of apprehended objects, for conceptual mental consciousness, you must concede that: there are no fully established external signs of apprehended objects, because there are no self-characterized apprehended objects, but only following after habitual tendencies. Furthermore, in your system that posits no self-cognition, how can a former consciousness fully illuminate a later consciousness? It cannot, because the later consciousness, you must concede that: the former consciousness is what you illuminate, and from what does your illuminator come? Because both you and it are the same in being of a non-illuminating nature. If it is said that because it is not self-illuminating, it cannot illuminate, then how can external objects such as forms illuminate? You must concede that they cannot illuminate. External objects such as forms, even though they are not self-illuminating, can be given the name of illuminating, because for illuminating sense consciousnesses, the name of illuminating is given through their own nature, that is, through the way of transforming aspects. That illuminating sense consciousness is also self-illuminating without depending on other illuminating things, because illuminating is its nature or essence. If you want the aspect of the former consciousness to appear to the later consciousness in this way, therefore, the later consciousness, you must concede that: it is established as self-cognizing. If the later consciousness is not self-illuminating, but is the illuminator of the former consciousness, then external objects such as forms must also be conceded to be the illuminator of the former consciousness, because they are not illuminating together with the later consciousness, and have the same nature. Because it is so, therefore, in our system

Consciousness is fully clear by virtue of its own nature of being fully clear, while other forms, etc., are clear by virtue of the transformation of their essence, i.e., appearance, into that consciousness, which is called fully clear. The former consciousness, has the property. Even if the latter consciousness is the same, it does not consider you to be fully clear, because it relies on other things that can clarify, and it is itself fully clear. If it is said that things are clear because they are the same as things, how are things clear? Sense consciousness, has the property. Because things such as form appear as its essence, i.e., the way they appear, it is said that things, etc., are fully clear. Because things such as form are not clear by their own essence, but things such as form are clear and have the name of being knowable. Therefore, if both the former and latter consciousnesses are clear by themselves, then they should not become the object and subject of clarification, like two lamps. If it is not clear by itself, but relies on other things that can clarify, then it can become the object and subject of clarification, like the light of a lamp and the shape of a vase, and it is precisely because of relying on this that the name of the nature of the object and subject of clarification is widely developed. They prove self-awareness by the reason that consciousness has the aspect of an object. Now, proving self-awareness by the reason of later memory: Knowable, has the property. From where is it known that consciousness can see and hear forms, etc., and remember this matter? The reason is that besides forms, etc., consciousness has also seen and experienced them, which is undoubtedly true. Merely because consciousness can see and hear forms, etc., and there are the object and dominant sense organs of a person who has memory, it is not certain that the idea that consciousness can see and hear forms, etc., will arise, therefore. Therefore, through the reason of later memory of the difference in understanding things, it can also be established that consciousness is self-aware. If the reason of later memory is used to prove that consciousness is experienceable, then it will become a repetition of proving what has already been established, because consciousness is known by other consciousnesses. Knowable, has the property. If it is said that there will be no consciousness that holds short and long letters, etc., because there is no memory of holding it, because there is no subject to experience it. If it is said that one moment of auditory consciousness can hold a long letter, and the later consciousness...
