In order to refute those views that consciousness is not self-cognizant, but is experienced by other substances, thereby establishing the view that consciousness is self-cognizant, in short, as the scripture says, "If consciousness is experienced by others, then even the mindless should have memory." Now, explaining this passage, first, through reasoning establishing that consciousness has two aspects, thereby incidentally proving the view of self-cognizance. Through the reasoning establishing the two aspects of consciousness, later, relying on the memory of understanding different things as evidence, one can also roughly incidentally establish the view of self-cognizance, because without self-cognizance, there would be no experience of understanding different things. Then, how does establishing the two aspects establish self-cognizance? Sense consciousness, has the nature of self-experience, because it manifests and experiences the apprehended aspect that is its own nature, therefore it is so. If one thinks that even if consciousness has two aspects, it is the later consciousness that experiences the previous ones, and not without aspects, then, how does the later consciousness, which is the entity of the previous consciousness and has aspects, experience the previous consciousness? It should not experience it, because the previous consciousness has ceased to exist when it itself existed. Furthermore, it, not only does not experience itself, but the claim that it fully experiences the previous consciousness will also be overturned, because you have not even experienced your own nature. Moreover, the view that consciousness is not self-aware also contradicts direct perception, because the consciousness that can grasp and experience itself, should appear outwardly, because it is a consciousness that has the appearance of manifesting other substances besides itself as objects. One cannot think so, because it always appears inwardly to itself. Furthermore, according to your view, the sense consciousness that appears blue, you should not experience any aspect of it appearing as blue, etc., which is its own object, because it exists outside of other substances besides itself. One will also incur such a fault. If one thinks that because it is similar to that thing, there is a reason to experience that thing, it is not that there is no reason, but it is established as experience because of similarity, then, all similar things, such as sisters, brothers, etc., should experience each other, because of similarity. One will incur such a fault. If one thinks that it is because the similarity that becomes consciousness is established as experiencing that thing, then, knowables, it is not reasonable to establish experience merely because of similarity, because experience

Because it is necessary to have a similarity that reverses ignorance. If it is said that experience must also rely on similarity, just like experiencing things. Then, that part of the experience of this knowledge, is the cause of being similar to that thing, so it should not be distinguished by the similarity of things, because it arises from the nature of its own experience. If this is the case, then the similarity of things is meaningless. This similarity of things, because the part of your own experience is not the object you distinguish, so you should not be meaningless, because in the world, that is, in name, actions such as work, form, etc., will become the cause of distinguishing the different differences in understanding things. If knowledge experiences itself, then how is the experience of blue, etc., famous? The root consciousness that appears as blue, etc., should not be called the experience of blue, etc., from experiencing the nature of other external objects, because it is only because the confused mind mistakenly thinks that the nature of experiencing its own essence is the experience of the blue, etc., of the external environment, so it is called the experience of blue, etc. If blue, etc., appear in the mind, not the blue, etc., of the external environment, but the entity of blue, etc., that is, the appearance of the form, then for the existence of external objects, what is the established quantity, that is, there is no established quantity? The root consciousness that appears as blue, if the blue, etc., are taken as the object to experience, how can it not be an experience? Because it is not the entity of blue, etc., that is, it does not have the form. Now establish the doctrine that it is not an experience from similarity: what can the experience of the self-nature part of knowledge be approximated to establish through similarity with things? That is, it is not what is established, because when it does not have the cause of being similar to things, it arises from the nature of its own experience. In addition, if experience is established through similarity, then is experience established through similarity with all self-natures, or is experience established through similarity with some parts? If it is the former, then the root consciousness will become not knowledge, because it is similar to all the self-natures of things. If it is the latter, then all objects will become experienced by all knowledge, because it is similar to some parts of knowledge. If it is said that knowledge will experience blue, etc., as the object to be taken, then what about it?
