Does it depend on clarity, or does it not depend on clarity? If it does not depend on clarity, then because there is no connection, it generally does not change. If it depends on clarity, then because of that, it must be said that the general is the very fruit of clarity, but that is also unreasonable, because the general is permanent. Furthermore, the fruit that has already been born, such as a sprout, does not depend on its own cause, the seed, because its own nature has already been formed from its own cause, the seed. Moreover, in the ultimate sense, it is not related to its own cause, the seed, because it is only through conceptualization that one relates it to the seed, saying, "The fruit of this seed is this." If cause and effect are also not related in the ultimate sense, then the general, as a phenomenon, what ultimate connection does it have with clarity? It has no connection, because it is not the fruit of clarity and is permanent. Therefore, if the general is a different substance from clarity, then it has no ultimate connection with it, because it is a different substance that is not a cause and effect. Therefore, the general, as a phenomenon, is established as being without inherent existence, because it is neither one with clarity nor different from it. If it is said that things like rabbit horns are also not expressible as being the same as or different from the clarity of forms, etc., so they should also be without inherent existence, then forms, etc., as phenomena, will not become your kind of non-existent rabbit horns, etc., because they do not depend on you, so there is no relationship of subject and predicate with you. If the general is not a real entity, then what does sound express? The expressing sounds, their nature is that the general is not a real entity, that is, relying on the similar clarity of characteristics, excluding from what is not oneself, thereby excluding others who have no nature in the ultimate sense, so you are not without an object to be expressed, because in conventional terms, the clear things are falsely established as kinds, thereby clearly showing them as their own objects to be expressed. What is sound like? It is a term agreed upon for the purpose of people understanding the particular characteristics. The general mind of a tree, which appears as the nature of the general tree, or the things that are clear about the meaning of the tree, holding them to be the same kind, is a delusion about the object of appearance, because it is a clinging to the appearance of a single thing, which is transformed and generated by the habitual impressions of seeing the characteristics of trees from beginningless time. Also, the general of other exclusions.

It shows that things do not exist. For the appearances of trees, whatever is posited as a generality, the sound of a tree with the characteristic of being different from non-trees, the exclusion of others of the tree that is expressed, as a subject, does not exist in the slightest, because it is not established as it appears. In the general concept of trees, the appearance of mistaking the appearances of trees as one kind, and the appearance of clinging, even though it does not have the nature of appearing in the ultimate sense, but in name, we consider it to be the general tree, and the general is also a subject. It does not exist in the ultimate sense as it appears, because the appearances of trees are seen as the general, that is, the clinging appearance of the same kind. The general concept of trees, as a subject, does not have the nature of the object of apprehension as it appears, because it is false and mistaken, because what appears to oneself is not exactly that, because it does not exist in reality as it appears. Therefore, the general, as a subject, cannot be said to be appearance, one, and different in the ultimate sense, because there is no nature in the ultimate sense. If it is said that even though the general tree cannot be said to be one or different from its own appearance in the ultimate sense, but from some generalities of cotton, etc., it can be said to be different, so it is considered to be a thing. Things, as subjects, should not be said to be the same and different in any way, because they have not gone beyond the form of the same and different. The general tree, as a subject, should not be said to be different in meaning from the general of cotton, etc., because its own proximate cause or the appearance of the dependent tree is different from cotton, etc., because it is merely a false establishment different from the general of cotton, etc. Furthermore, for past and future things, such as vases, etc., they have also become vases, or will become vases, so the hearing of vases, etc., will enter, and the sound of vases also has the cause of general things, if it is thought so. The general, as a subject, how can it become an existing substance? It should not become, because it is the Dharma of non-existent things. If it is said that the sound of the vase enters by being falsely established from the past and future vases, and does not enter cotton, etc., if it is thought so. The non-existent past and future vase, as a subject, for the present vase, the sound of the vase that enters as a real name, enters by being falsely established for you, and does not enter cotton, etc.
