The consciousnesses that appear as objects to be cognized are, in reality, self-cognizance. Therefore, the consciousnesses that appear as objects are considered to cognize objects through the appearance of the object's form. The reason is that without the form of the object, the nature of the object would not appear, but the cognition of the object does exist. Therefore, the knowable phenomena, the valid cognition that proves the object-cognition that has become the nature of self-cognizance, is the object residing in the mind, which is the apprehended aspect. And what should be established as the aspect of the apprehended aspect is also the object-cognition that has become the nature of self-cognizance. Because, how the desire and non-desire reside in the consciousness, that is, how it appears, so the external object is clearly established as desire and non-desire. If the external object to be measured is the self-cognizant result, then it is contradictory to say here that the establishment of the measure-result is the object-cognizant result. If the external object to be measured is analyzed, then it is not contradictory to say self-cognizant result and to say object-cognizant result, because the object-appearing consciousnesses of subsequent memory are self-cognizant in reality, but are considered to be object-cognizant in name, because the object appearing to the consciousness that establishes the object of consciousness as the object is the nature of that consciousness. The object-appearing consciousnesses, when the external object to be measured is analyzed, the object of measure and result is also not different, because the object appearing to oneself is the object that the action of valid cognition enters, and that object is also the cognition, which is the result. Then, how is it said to be the self-cognizant result? To say that the self-cognizant result is the external object to be measured is not within the scope of name, but within the scope of analyzing the nature of object-cognition with reason, because the consciousnesses that are considered to be object-cognition in name are the nature of self-cognizance. After they have acknowledged the external object as something accepted by others and explained the third conceptualization of result, now they intend to enter the principle of mere consciousness, and thus they have presented a discourse that points out the faults of the Sutra School, which believes that consciousness does not directly cognize external objects, but cognizes objects through the appearance of the object's form. If, for the proponents of the theory of aspects, consciousness directly cognizes external objects.

If one wishes to realize meaning through the appearance of what is not real, then for those who assert external objects, it is unreasonable to consider the cause of generating similarity as the object to be measured. However, for the sense consciousness that perceives meaning, whether it is similar to the external object or dissimilar to what is similar, whether it is the aspect of grasping blue, etc., or the aspect of holding these, the cause of such appearance is only because the external object is also a cause, so it must be considered that the external object itself is the object to be measured. If one considers it measurable through the generation of similarity to the external object, it is because the similarity to the external object is not established. The latter is correct because the external object is not realized by any valid cognition. If those who assert external objects consider it measurable merely because the external object is a cause, it would be too extreme. Therefore, some opponents standing aside say: For the consciousness that perceives meaning, how does it grasp the external object and yet not grasp it? Because like some aspects, from some causes and conditions, things and realities appear without similarity. If one says so, then it is true to say so, but even I, a follower of the Mind-Only school, do not understand wanting to realize meaning without similarity to meaning. If external objects do not exist, then how can the nature of the three, the measurer, the result, and the measured, be established in a single consciousness? Ultimately, there are no three, the measurer, the result, and the measured, in a single consciousness, but nominally, in order to show that for the deluded mind that follows ignorance, the distinctions are made as they appear, the sutra says: When appearance occurs, that is the measured; the valid cognition and its result are the grasping consciousness; therefore, these three should not be distinguished. This commentary says that ultimately, in the nature of a single mind, there is no distinction between the grasper, the grasped, and consciousness, but those with inverted views who follow ignorance discriminate as if experiencing the grasped and the grasper, that is, being different from consciousness and having difference. For example, for those whose senses are deceived by illusory mantras and medicines, the illusory substances such as clay pieces, although different from the forms of horses, elephants, etc., appear as forms of horses, elephants, etc., different from the clay pieces, etc., from the clay pieces, etc. If the power of mantras and medicines, etc., makes the clay piece
