Therefore, it is impossible to arise in different places. Because if its entity, that is, the meaning is not the same, then the collection of qualities of the subject that generates the understanding of meaning cannot exist either. If the understanding of the same meaning is one, and therefore is the agent and the action, then it is contradictory. These two subjects, it is not established that they are one, because in name, it is admitted that the dharma, that is, the reverse, is different. In reality, that is, in the ultimate sense, it is considered to be non-different, because it is a part of one knowledge. Therefore, all these terms of agent and action are all abiding in such a way, that is, in name, the reverse is different, but in the ultimate sense, there is no difference. If this is also unreasonable, that is, in the world, it is seen that some terms of agent and action exist differently in the ultimate sense, such as Devadatta cooking rice and an axe cutting a tree. Considering the agent and action as different things, such as Devadatta cooking rice, an axe cutting a tree, etc., these subjects, the cooking of rice other than Devadatta, and the action of cutting a tree other than the axe, are not other meanings, because establishing the action of setting up the stove, etc. is the state of Devadatta, and the action of entering the tree, such as raising and lowering, is the state of the axe, through superimposing meanings other than Devadatta and the axe, therefore, the terms of agent and action of Devadatta cooking rice and the axe cutting a tree arise. These have already shown the establishment of valid cognition and result from the perspective of the proponents of external objects. Now, in order to refute it, and in order to establish the reasoning of valid cognition and result of the Mind-Only school in another way, in short, explain "Or self-awareness is the result." If asked, what is the reason for the meaning of the result that you consider? If the answer is, it is precisely those that separately know forms, etc., and are directly experienced. If it is said, we do not deny the appearance as the meaning of separately knowing and experiencing, but for what reason is the knowledge that appears as meaning considered to be knowing external objects? If the answer is, because it is established as knowing meaning from being similar to meaning. If it is said, establishing knowing meaning from being similar to meaning will become confused, such as the knowledge of the attachment to water in a mirage, although the image of water appears, it does not know water. If there is no external object, but meaning

If asked, what is the object experienced by this appearing consciousness? From where does it come? In this context, since it is through reason that we analyze the way consciousness experiences objects that are different from itself, it is unreasonable to ask us this question. Furthermore, if consciousness is the same as things, is it the same as atoms or as gross matter? If it is like the first case, then these atoms are the subject, for what reason? Because the consciousness that manifests things is the same as itself in producing effects, or is it not? Because it appears as gross and with parts, while you are without parts. The second case is also unreasonable, because gross matter is not a substance. Therefore, the consciousness that manifests things is the subject. It is not truly the same as things, because there is no similarity with things in either subtlety or grossness. Even if it is the same as things, it cannot merely for that reason take things as the object to be grasped, thereby establishing the nature of experience. Because being the same as things is universally present in the mistaken understanding of things. If it is thought that both being the same as things and arising from things are taken as the object to be grasped, thereby becoming the characteristic of experience, therefore there is no fault of being deceived by mirages and clouds, then, the later moment of the blue-perceiving consciousness that is similar to things or blue objects is the subject, because the earlier moment of the blue-perceiving consciousness that is similar to itself and is the immediate cause will become the object to be grasped and experienced, because it arises from it and is the same as it. If it is said that when seeing or hearing external objects such as forms, I am certain to have the thought, "I see this form, I hear this sound," and the objects of these thoughts are the objects taken by the thoughts and experienced, therefore there is no fault of similarity being immediately experienced, then, the sense consciousnesses that manifest sounds and hear sounds, and see forms, etc., are the subject, for what reason? Because the certainty that arises after you is considered proof that you hold forms, etc., but this is unreasonable, because whether the close relationship between forms, etc., and you as the object to be grasped and the grasper is established by valid cognition is something to be examined. It is universally present, because forms, etc., and the sense consciousnesses that grasp forms, etc., are related to the object to be grasped and the grasper.
