Things that appear as various beliefs are the subject to be proven. It is not the case that various different contradictions appear on the object of the non-conceptual, non-erroneous mind, because they have the nature of being fabricated. This is pervasive. Because fabrication is the object of conceptualization, not the object of non-conceptualization that occasionally arises from the object of apprehension. Furthermore, Each object known is different, Not the nature of what is expressed, but the realm of the senses. It is explained that even if, as you imagine, there exists a generality of white, etc., as an entity, the generality of white, etc., is the subject to be proven. It is not the object of sense consciousness, because it is the direct object of expression by sound. This is pervasive. Because whatever thing is in the realm of the senses is not the direct object of expression by sound, because it is the nature of the consciousness arising from sound, that is, different from the object of appearance. If sense consciousness and mental consciousness both hold the same object, such as the generality of white, etc., but because the senses (having) form and the mental faculty, etc., rely on various different supports, different appearances arise, then, the minds of the senses such as the ear are the subject to be proven. From where does it come that it has different objects? It is not so, because there is no proof greater than the different appearances that it is not mistaken. Furthermore, even if the support of the minds of sense consciousness and mental consciousness arises from different places, these two are the subject to be proven. From where does it come that the nature of clarity and non-clarity appears in various ways? It is not so, because they are similar in holding the object of the same apprehended object. If it is said that the cow, etc., seen before, is later recognized as "this is it" by the knowledge arising from sound, so sense consciousness and mental consciousness are the same object, then, the recognition of "this is it" of the cow, etc., seen before, is the subject to be proven. It is the opposite of the situation where the cow seen directly before exists as the object of apprehension, because the meaning seen before, without realizing its own characteristic, enters only through speech, sound, and the intention of discrimination. For the things seen before, such as the cow, etc., whatever speech expresses the genus, etc., and the discriminations that hold them, are signs that follow, from which it can be inferred that the genus, etc., are other meanings, but this also enters only through sound and the intention of discrimination without realizing the meaning's own characteristic. This reasoning has refuted it.

If it is said that if there is no general entity, then the sound concept of the general cannot arise, but since it does arise, the general entity exists. Then, for the sense consciousnesses that see the self-characteristics of similar things, even if there are differences and identities without other meanings such as kinds, the one conceptualization called recognizing them as one kind is produced by its own nature, as has been said before. The Blessed One said in the sutra that there are two ways of knowing things: relying on the senses and relying on the mind. Wishing to explain this, the explanation of mind-direct perception in the Compendium, where it says 'mind also with objects,' is as follows. One who has not pierced his ears says, there is no valid cognition called mind-direct perception. If there were, would it apprehend what has already been seen by sense-direct perception, or what has not been seen? If it apprehends the experience of previous sense-direct perception, then mind would not be a valid cognition, like memory and desire. If it apprehends what has not been seen by sense-direct perception, then the blind and others would also see objects, forms, etc., because they have mind. If it is said that it apprehends not what has already been apprehended, but what has not been apprehended, then is the object apprehended by sense-direct perception momentary or not? If it is momentary, then the object apprehended by sense-direct perception, as the object apprehended by mind-direct perception caused immediately by sense-direct perception, cannot be seen, because it has passed at the time of its immediate cause, because it is itself the moment that is the cause of the immediate cause. If it is not momentary, then mind-direct perception, when examining its own definition, must be said to be 'repeatedly apprehending what has already been apprehended by the previous valid cognition,' which would change its own definition and its particularity, because it itself is the valid cognition that apprehends the permanent object apprehended by sense-direct perception as its immediate cause. Furthermore, how can those with senses, i.e., the later moment of sense-direct perception and other mind-direct perceptions, be considered as valid cognitions that perform the action of newly understanding what was not previously understood, since they do not make any difference in understanding the action or object after the previous valid cognition has completed the action of understanding the object to be measured? All sense consciousnesses and mind consciousnesses should arise simultaneously, because they arise from the permanent object of the apprehended object.
