Because there are no substances with parts, because dissimilar particles do not compose substances with parts. If it is said that even if there are no substances with parts, there are variegated patterns interwoven, so it appears as diverse, then, the object possessing variegated patterns should not appear as diverse to an unconfused consciousness, because it is formless, because it is a quality. If it is said that because it is similar to substances with parts and variegation, it is merely approximately called variegation, then, because it is similar to this and that, it should rely on being approximately called variegation, that is, it should also be the object of designation, because there is no object of similarity, that is, substances with parts, because it cannot be perceived. If it is said that because it has a connection with each of the blue, etc., parts in a unified sense, it is merely called variegation, then, because it has a connection with this and that, it should not appear there, because each of the blue, etc., parts is not the nature of diversity. If it is said that the blue, etc., parts of the variegated pattern, etc., are grasped sequentially by sensory consciousness, and the mental consciousness mixes in the thought "this is diverse" and grasps them, so it merely appears as variegation, then, the blue, etc., parts of the variegated pattern should not be grasped sequentially by sensory consciousness and then be grasped by mental consciousness mixing in the thought "this is diverse," because one consciousness cannot simultaneously grasp multiple objects. Therefore, it is established that one consciousness cannot grasp multiple objects, because there are no substances with parts, it is multiple, and sensory consciousness grasps it simultaneously. Therefore, because it is produced there by multiple objects, it is established that "the self-meaning is the object of generality." Furthermore, the sensory consciousness that grasps the blue, etc., of the variegated pattern is established as non-conceptual, because even when the mental consciousness is conceptually grasping one blue, etc., object, other yellow, etc., objects also appear clearly. Furthermore, if one refutes "diversity is not a single nature," if for the blue, yellow, etc., objects of the consciousness that appears as diverse, because they appear as diverse, it should not be single, then, for the one consciousness that appears as diverse, how does it appear as diverse? It should not appear, because it is one. For those who believe that things are true as they appear.

Because there is fault, we do not want it that way, so for the time being, we answer by way of the higher vehicle, saying there is no fault. The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who are skilled in the reality of things, what is said in the sutras from "Form is empty of form" to "Consciousness is empty of consciousness" comes from the power of things themselves. And what is that? Whatever blue, yellow, etc., things, in whatever way, when thought about and examined with the mode of reasoning of one and many, they are empty and devoid of that kind of mode of one and many. That is what is explained in detail by way of showing the aspect of the selflessness of phenomena. If one asks, what will happen to the appearance of various things to one mind, or is it not established as true as it appears? Then, for that one mind that appears in various ways, the subject, it should not be established as true as it appears, because it is a part of the one mind. If one thinks that the things that appear in reality are truly established by valid cognition in this nature of appearance, then what is the use of preventing it? Because one cannot prevent what is established by valid cognition. Because the things that appear in reality are not established as true as they appear, therefore, the things that appear dependent on the object of grasping and the grasping consciousness, the subject, are not truly existent in either the outer or inner, because they are devoid of the true one and many. If one says that it exists in the outer object of grasping, then does it exist in the part-possessing or in many atoms? Neither of these is reasonable, because, the subject, the appearance of being a single gross entity does not exist even in a single part-possessing entity, because that part-possessing entity itself has already been refuted by valid cognition. Moreover, it does not exist in many atoms, because each atom does not have grossness, and the collection of many is contrary to grossness. If one says that even if there is no external object, the single consciousness appears as both grasper and grasped, so it is truly existent, then, consciousness, the subject, its own appearance as both grasper and grasped should not be truly existent, because the complete cutter of consciousness itself is a part of the inner graspers, and this, which exists like the outer, is a part of the external grasped aspects. Therefore, it is deceptive or mistaken, because the consciousness without the distinction of grasper and grasped itself appears as the grasper and grasped are different. From the consciousness of the appearance of things, the subject, either the grasper or the grasped, one
