The sign of the effect's own nature, by which understanding is accomplished through certain things, is the subject. It does not deceive its own thesis at all times, because it is undoubtedly born from the dharma of its own thesis or is the nature of its pervasion. Pervasion is because without its own cause or the nature of the pervader, the effect or the meaning of the pervaded is impossible. Therefore, knowable as the subject, all three aspects of the sign do not deceive their own thesis at all times, because seeing the sign of the effect's own nature as having a natural connection of not arising if it is absent from the dharma of its own thesis, that itself is also the characteristic of other three aspects of the sign. The visible pot and the nature of the wood, the self-cause of the smoke, the fire, the cause of seeing, other sense consciousnesses, etc., although they exist, if the existence of those is not apparent, that is, if it is not perceived by valid cognition, how can the pot and animals, etc., which possess nature, pervasion, and cause, exist? Because it does not deceive the absence of them, because it is pervaded by the absence of them. Therefore, not only the establishing sign but also the eliminating sign does not deceive its own thesis, like this. The visible nature and the self-cause of the fruit of its own nature, the cause of seeing, other sense consciousnesses, etc., although they exist, if the existence of nature, pervasion, and cause is not apparent and is not perceived, then how can the nature holder and the pervaded thing, the fruit, which possess nature, pervasion, and cause, exist? They will not exist, because the nature holder and the pervaded thing, the fruit, do not deceive nature, pervasion, and cause. Furthermore, if general awareness is not inference, then the things understood based on signs such as monasteries, as the subject, will obtain non-existence, because they are not understood by direct perception. For example, just as it is assumed that things of the afterlife are not understood by direct perception, so they do not exist. If it is said that those things are understood by sense consciousnesses at other times, so they will not become non-existent, but the afterlife, etc., are not understood at all times, so they do not exist. Then, because it is not included in all times of sense consciousness, it is not completely non-existent, because the senses have the ability to generate sense consciousness, and food has the ability to relieve hunger.

Because the wisdom of the senses is impossible as a means of cognition for the ability to eliminate obstacles, etc. If it is recognized that that example does not have the ability to produce, therefore, the wisdom of the senses and its arising will become causeless, which is unreasonable. Therefore, the wisdom that uses the senses as a measure of the ability of the senses to produce wisdom, etc., is the subject, not non-conceptual, that is, not direct perception, because it is a general apprehension, which is pervasive. Because direct perception is non-conceptual, it enters its own self-character in a direct way, because it is a general apprehension. Therefore, for it, it is inference, because for it, it is a conceptual valid cognition. If color, etc., are the subject, it will not be recognized as impermanent, because the object of measurement is determined as both self-character and general character, which is pervasive. Because color impermanence is the third object of measurement that mixes self-character and general character. Therefore, the wisdom that recognizes color impermanence is the subject, it will become a valid cognition other than direct perception and inference, because it is not direct perception from general apprehension, and it also exists without a sign, so it is not inference either. The Samkhya school says that the wisdom that sees the difference is the subject, it is a valid cognition other than direct perception and inference, because recognizing hidden things is not direct perception, and there is no recognition of the relationship between the sign and the dharma, so it is not inference either. Furthermore, valid cognitions are the subject, they are more than direct perception and inference, because the object of measurement is more than self-character and general character, and through vows, multiple valid cognitions enter into one object of measurement, for example, the person in the room, who was previously recognized by direct perception, and later recognized by the knowledge of seeing the difference. Furthermore, the number that determines that valid cognition is only direct perception will not be excluded, because there is no determination that direct perception and inference separately grasp the self-character and general character of the object, and the number of the third valid cognition, etc., will not be excluded, because there are other things besides self-character and general character. If someone asks, does the valid cognition that recognizes the mixture of self-character and general character refer to the wisdom that recognizes color impermanence from the sign of being made? Or does it refer to the memory that arises after the direct perception of the cessation of the color continuum, thinking that color is impermanent? If it is the former, then the wisdom that recognizes color impermanence from the sign is the subject, it is the third valid cognition that recognizes the mixture of self-character and general character.
