Because ego-grasping obscures the faults such as birth and aging, and clings to those faults as virtues. Because it is greedy for the happiness of the self. Therefore, that phenomenon, should completely accept the establisher of "I am" ego-grasping. Because it completely craves seeing the virtues of ego-grasping. Therefore, as long as there is strong attachment to the self, then that person will wander in samsara. Furthermore, a person with ego-grasping, is a phenomenon, will wander in samsara, because all faults such as attachment will arise. Because the mindstream is completely connected with these attachments and aversions of clinging to the part of the self that should be grasped, and generating hatred towards the part other than that. Because it is a person who distinguishes between self and other. That is also because there is a view of self. If it is said that in the state of liberation, because of being separated from the attachment of ego-grasping, one will not wander in samsara, then, a person who desires liberation, is a phenomenon, should not be separated from the attachment of ego-grasping. Because it is definitely a person who is attached to the self. The reason is established, because that phenomenon, there is also no cause for separating from attachment to the self. Because it strongly clings to the self as having virtues without the faults of samsara's harm and so on. If it is said that the self has no faults, but attachment to the self has faults, then, ask: What will happen if attachment to the self has faults? If it is said that because seeing its faults, it will be abandoned, then, this ego-grasping arising from clinging to the self as having virtues, is a phenomenon, without refuting the clinging to the object of its clinging, the self, as having virtues, it cannot be abandoned merely by seeing its faults. Because merely seeing the virtues of ego-grasping is not clinging to it, but it is clinging to it because seeing the virtues of the self. There is pervasion, that is, for any object, the desire connected with seeing virtues, and the abandonment of hatred and jealousy etc. connected with seeing faults, is abandoned through not seeing those faults and virtues in that object, and not removing the faults of the mind in the manner of removing external thorns. Therefore, for a person who desires liberation, this phenomenon, what will prevent the fruit ego-grasping, it cannot prevent it.

it is capable, because its substantial cause, self-grasping, is complete and without deficiency. Furthermore, if asked, what faults are seen in attachment to self-grasping that it is abandoned? If the answer is: because it gives rise to attachment to "mine," becoming a basis for suffering. Then, a sentient being with the desire for liberation, since self-grasping is with faults, then it should not be without attachment to it, because we see it as "mine." For example, although "I" is a cause of suffering, it is not abandoned. If it is said that the "I" with attachment and powers, etc. (afflictions), is the cause of suffering, but the unattached "I" without those (afflictions) is not the cause of suffering, so attachment, etc., are with faults, while "I" is without faults. Then, attachment, etc., are also the subject, and should be without faults, because such an "I" does not give rise to suffering when unattached. If it is thought in that way, then both "I" and attachment, etc., are also the subject, and should not be abandoned, because both of you are equally without faults. If it is said that we, these sentient beings with the desire for liberation, will abandon "mine," because we have the practice of contemplating "mine" as suffering, like a limb seized by a poisonous snake. Then, this is not the same, because the finger seized by a poisonous snake is abandoned because it has destroyed the thought of "mine" as the means of accomplishing my happiness from now on, but not the opposite, abandoning without abandoning the thought of "mine." Then, a sentient being with the desire for liberation, from where does non-attachment to objects and faculties, etc., come? It is not reasonable, because with what will the thought of self be prevented for those (objects and faculties, etc.)? It cannot be prevented, because those are regarded as the basis and means of accomplishing my happiness. The former has pervasion, because for those hairs and nails, etc., that have fallen from the body and are not grasped as "mine," a mind of aversion will arise. Conversely, for those hairs and nails, etc., that have not fallen from the body and are grasped as "mine," a mind with attachment will arise, because this is manifestly established by all people. Furthermore, attachment and "mine," etc., even if one contemplates suffering and sees faults, one will not abandon the thought of "mine."
