It is suffering, because it serves as the basis for sins and the like in various ways that conform to the object and corresponding things. Because it is subject to the influence of cause, action, and afflictions. It is not a permanent, singular, and independent "self," because it is impermanent, multiple, and dependent. It is not a "self" blessed by a permanent "self," because that "self" is not the one who blesses you. Therefore, the "self," which possesses qualities, is not the blesser of the aggregates, because it is not their cause, since it is permanent. The pervasion exists, because how can the permanent produce a result? It has already been said that it does not. Therefore, the permanent, singular "self," which possesses qualities, how can numerous aggregates arise from you at different times, earlier and later? It cannot arise, because it is permanent. Furthermore, the eye consciousness, which is a result, has a cause other than appearance and attention, because other causes, appearance and attention, even if gathered together with power, are not sufficient to cause you to arise, and sometimes it arises. From such negative examples, it can be inferred that there are causal forces and the like. Permanent phenomena, which possess qualities, are not the cause of results, because the reversal of you as a helper, with the power to produce results, does not exist. Having thus fully understood, having shown the truth of suffering, now showing the truth of the origin, which is to be abandoned. This truth of suffering, as previously stated, is established as having a cause, because it arises occasionally in place and time. The pervasion exists, because if there is no cause, it does not depend on other causes and conditions. That suffering is either always present or always absent, and it will not occasionally be in between. Just as the sharpness, color, shape, and softness of bamboo thorns, lotus stems, leaves, and stamens, etc., arise without a cause, so too will these sufferings arise without a cause, some who assert nature as the cause vehemently proclaim. Those bamboo thorns and the like, which possess qualities, have a cause, because other meanings, whatever preceded them as a helper, existence or non-existence follows its changes.

Moreover, because it exists, there is pervasion. If a prior thing is helpful for a subsequent thing to arise, and the prior thing changes, and subsequently the latter thing manifests, then that prior thing is said by the wise to be the cause of the latter. If that is the case, does the arising touch also become the cause of eye consciousness? The arising touch, as the cause of eye consciousness that sees form, is because it is the cause of form. Thus, having refuted the doctrine of no cause, refuting the assertion of dissimilar things as causes, suffering, it is not possible for you to arise from permanent causes such as Ishvara, because the permanent things such as Ishvara are negated by valid cognition as causes, and they do not have the power to produce results. Showing the concordant cause, that is with impermanent causes, because it has a cause and permanence cannot be a cause. What is that impermanent cause? The sutra says: What is the noble truth of the origin of suffering? It is the cycle of existence that is accompanied by delight and attachment, with a state of being delighted in this and that, namely, desire attachment, existence attachment, and non-existence attachment. These three cravings are the cause. The reason is as follows: Ordinary beings such as humans, before taking birth, have the desire for existence, wanting to manifest the womb and so on, as a cause, because they are not involuntarily led by Ishvara and so on, but voluntarily accept and acquire the distinctions of places of birth, circumstances, necessities, and so on, because they do so with the thought of wanting to obtain these things. If there is no thought of wanting to obtain these things, then it is unreasonable to voluntarily accept these things. This is pervasive, because accepting the distinctions of places of birth and so on is the desire for existence, wanting to manifest existence. Furthermore, ordinary sentient beings, before taking birth, have desire attachment and non-existence attachment as causes, because they enter the womb and so on with the mind of wanting to obtain happiness and wanting to abandon suffering. This is pervasive, because these are respectively desire attachment and non-existence
