Therefore, it is appropriate to contemplate through means such as "What is true?" Because you wish to liberate yourself and others from suffering. If suffering has no cause, or if the cause is imperishable, then the result, suffering, will not cease. Therefore, upon such reflection, suffering itself sometimes arises and sometimes increases or decreases, and thus it will be understood as impermanent. Following that, it is appropriate to contemplate what is the antidote to the cause of suffering, because you wish to completely destroy the cause of that suffering. For example, just as one who wishes to pacify a disease investigates the antidote to the cause of the disease. Having contemplated in this way, the nature of the antidote, which is the opposite of the cause of suffering, will also be ascertained by valid cognition, because the essence, object, and aspects of the cause of suffering will be understood without error. So, what are the cause of suffering, which is characterized by birth, and the antidote to that cause? The attachment produced by grasping at a self and what belongs to a self, with the aggregates of the five appropriated aggregates as their object, is the cause of suffering, because relying on you, beings take birth in wombs and so forth. The wisdom that directly sees the five aggregates as selfless is the destroyer of the grasping at a self and what belongs to a self, which is the cause of suffering, because it is a powerful opponent. Seeing selflessness directly is the means of pacifying suffering, and because you wish to show others the means of pacifying suffering without error, it is appropriate to familiarize yourself with it in various ways, continuously, for a long time, for countless eons and so forth. Because through familiarizing yourself with it, the faults to be abandoned and the qualities of the antidote will become very clear to the one who familiarizes themselves. This is universal, because if one clearly understands the faults and qualities of what is to be abandoned and the antidote, one can show it to others without error. Therefore, the capable Bhagavan has completely abandoned the cause of suffering, grasping at a self and what belongs to a self, together with its imprints, because your mind is extremely clear about the faults and qualities of what is to be abandoned and the antidote.

In order to accomplish (the benefit of others). Therefore, O Great Hero who effortlessly and spontaneously accomplishes the benefit of others, you are superior to solitary realizers like rhinoceroses and Hearer Arhats, because you have abandoned all the negative karmas and habitual tendencies of the three doors. Therefore, such abandonment is the difference between the Buddha, the Bhagavan, and the Hearer and Solitary Realizer Arhats, because only the Buddha possesses it while they do not. Therefore, O Teacher who is accustomed to seeing selflessness through skillful means, the reason why you, the Dharma, are called the Teacher in the praise of the Compendium is because you are the cause of those who possess the characteristics of a Teacher. These two, the excellent thought of benefiting sentient beings and the excellent practice of seeing and becoming accustomed to selflessness through skillful means, the Dharma, are said to be the cause of the Sugata in the praise of the Compendium, because, as mentioned before, you two precede them, and from this the result, the Sugata, arises. Now, in order to explain the result of such two causes preceding it, the Sugata, he spoke of "abandoning the cause," etc., that is, abandoning the cause of suffering, the attachment to self and what belongs to self, along with habitual tendencies, the Dharma, which here is the Sugata itself, because it is the liberation result that possesses the three qualities of excellent abandonment, non-returning abandonment, and complete abandonment. So, what is excellent? The Sugata, the Dharma, is excellent abandonment, because it is an abandonment that does not act as a basis for the suffering of being born again in samsara, because it is the liberation result of uprooting self-grasping by directly seeing selflessness. This, the Dharma, or connected by "or," is also excellent abandonment, because it arises from the perfection of seeing selflessness directly, which is seen by reason as the antidote to self-grasping, and becoming accustomed to it. So, what is returning abandonment? What abandonment is considered complete abandonment? Worldly beings who are free from attachment, Stream-enterers, and Non-returners, etc., the Dharma, are said to have returning abandonment, because they will be born again in samsara, and the faults, etc., that were previously abandoned will arise again.
