It will not be confused. It is due to the stability or instability of inner habitual tendencies that there is a difference between confusion and non-confusion, which is merely an arbitrary distinction made by children. In reality, it is not reasonable to distinguish between confusion and non-confusion for them, because all that does not see the ultimate truth is confused. If there is no object, then how does the appearance of knowledge, such as color and shape, arise? The cause is habitual tendencies that make the self appear alone in external objects, as if cut off. The appearance of knowledge itself as a single entity, as if at a great distance, is due to the power of habitual tendencies that have become accustomed to clinging to the perceived and the perceiver as distinct from beginningless time, and is not caused by external objects. Therefore, the *Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra* says: "There are no real things, only the mind; to see external objects as real is a wrong view. The mind is disturbed by habitual tendencies, and appearances as objects arise extensively." This is what is meant. If all of this is devoid of the perceived and the perceiver, then why did the Tathāgata establish the outer and inner sources for those to be trained? It would be appropriate to teach the nature of reality as it is. The outer and inner sources are to dispel the fear of children. The inner sources such as the eye and the outer sources such as forms, which the Buddha spoke of, were taught based on conventional truth in order to gradually lead those who have not yet become vessels for teaching the ultimate truth to the nectar of the ultimate truth. Therefore, this teaching is not without result, nor is it an establishment of the ultimate truth. How can this be understood? Separate from the perceived and the perceiver, it is taught differently to those who have trained their minds. Because for those to be trained who have trained their minds in the true meaning for many eons and have matured to be able to become vessels for the ultimate truth, at other times it will be taught that "form is emptiness" and so on, the nature of reality of the Dharma that is separate from all perceived and perceiver, therefore it is understood that the previous teaching was not an establishment of the ultimate truth. If it is said that the absence of the perceived and the perceiver is the nature of reality,

How to avoid contradicting the term of ego-grasping with what is known to the entire world, from scholars to children? Because of ignorance, worldly people, with the terms of grasper and grasped, to the thusness established by reason, to speak of harm is mere babble. For those who speak of grasper and grasped, even if the vajra thunderbolt of reason falls again and again, because the armor of ignorance is extremely thick, they do not think anything of it. If someone thinks that acknowledging the non-dual thusness established by reason is like a child babbling, and therefore fears that worldly deluded terms will cause harm, then you are someone who deserves to be laughed at by the wise. On the other hand, those who speak of non-duality have not harmed worldly terms either, like this: In the world, terms like objects, etc., are established as they appear, and truly speaking of thusness, it is merely negation, not conventional truth. Seeing forms with the eyes and hearing sounds with the ears, etc., the terms of object and subject, for worldly people, are established as they appear, therefore never denying conventional truth. Then, why respect those who speak of no grasper and grasped? Because unable to withstand the power of reason, they prevent the terms of grasper and grasped from being established as thusness, thereby relying on those who speak of non-duality. Others' unreasonable objections to those who speak of mind-only are: When seeing similarities, illusions arise, like water for those with eye disease. If there is no real object, then how is that possible for those who speak of mind-only? Here, some illusions arise because they rely on seeing true and false similarities. Just like having seen real water and snakes before, and then at other times, seeing the images of mirages and ropes that are similar to them, thereby giving rise to clinging to the appearance of water and snakes. Similarly, for those who speak of mind-only, if they have not experienced any real entity of grasper and grasped, then how would the illusion of clinging to grasper and grasped arise? Not all illusions rely on true and false similarities, like dreams, illusions, and perceptions of those with eye disease, etc. Therefore, like those with eye disease, from one's own causes, wrongly arising, what contradiction is there?
