It should be said that whatever does not involve the function of dependent origination is not dependent origination. Depending on each cause and condition is the meaning of the term dependent origination. Things that do not exist also do not involve the function of conditions, like space and so on. Therefore, because it is dependent origination, it is unreasonable to say that consciousness does not exist in reality, because it is contradictory. What is the meaning of the example like a magic trick? Is it that consciousness appears as horses, cattle, etc., or is it clinging to appearances as if they were external realities? If it is the former, then the appearance is established as the nature of the illusion of consciousness, so the example is empty of the property to be proven. If it is the latter, then it is merely what is completely imputed by discrimination, and because it does not depend on causes and conditions, the sign and example have no concomitance. Furthermore, Without mantras and substances, etc., Magic does not exist in the world. By saying everything is false, There should be some basis for imputation. Without the basis of transformation and the mantra of transformation, etc., no magic can be seen. Therefore, like a magic trick, you who say everything is false must also acknowledge something like the basis of magic, as a basis on which to identify these, either consciousness or something else. Or like a sky flower, Also deny the conventional. If you do not accept the basis of imputation, then because there is no cause, it is unreasonable to say that it is merely dependent, so you should abandon the statement that everything is merely conventional, and like a sky flower, all this does not exist. You should speak in a straightforward manner. What is the use of relying on deceptive statements? Even if some basis of imputation must be admitted, what is the use of saying it is merely consciousness? If you admit it, then as its basis, Why not admit consciousness? By saying it is merely imputation, if you admit some basis for it, then even if you do not want to, you must admit consciousness, because there is nothing else that can serve as the cause of conventional phenomena. How should this be understood? The chief, atoms, and Ishvara, etc., are the causes of the conventional.

Those of different origins, who claim inherent existence and causelessness, are not seen as speaking the truth. All of this is merely the nature of consciousness; seeing this truth, it is proclaimed. Claiming that dissimilar things such as Ishvara, atoms, a lord, the lord of beings, the son of desirelessness, etc., are the cause, and claiming that they exist inherently from the beginning or arise suddenly without cause, are seen as straying far from reality. Consciousness itself, due to the power of habitual tendencies, appears in the form of bodies, enjoyments, and places, but children do not understand its true nature as it is, falsely clinging to self and phenomena, and therefore do not abide in reality but experience the suffering of samsara. Therefore, the Bhagavan said, 'O sons of the Victorious Ones, these three realms are mind-only,' etc., proclaiming that consciousness is the place, basis, support, and cause of all phenomena. Therefore, the Mind-Only school is the stainless Middle Way. If all of this is established as Mind-Only, then why did the Tathagata say that all phenomena, including form, are without inherent existence? The All-Knowing One spoke of teaching non-inherent existence etc., with a hidden meaning. The word 'also' indicates that not only Mind-Only was taught. What is the hidden meaning in this? All phenomena are merely the three: the completely imputed, the dependent, and the thoroughly established. And these are also without inherent existence due to the three types of non-inherent existence. Thus, the completely imputed is merely imputed by conceptual thought, and because it lacks its own inherent existence, it is the non-inherent existence of characteristics. The dependent is not established as the non-inherent existence of characteristics because it is established as Mind-Only. However, it does not arise from its own inherent existence but depends on other conditions, so it is the non-inherent existence of arising. The thoroughly established is the nature of emptiness, or the selflessness of phenomena, so it is also non-inherent existence, and because it is a completely pure object, it is also the ultimate truth. Therefore, it is called the non-inherent existence of the ultimate truth. Thus, one should understand the three types of non-inherent existence.
