Since the aggregates on which it depends are impermanent, the self that depends on them should also be impermanent. Therefore, there is no self that is different from the aggregates. To speak of the inexpressible is in vain, because things have no form other than one and different. Thus, the grasping of self and what belongs to self is merely conceptualization. Thus, having eliminated the imputation of a self and shown the absence of a self of the person, wishing to cut off the imputation of phenomena and show the absence of self in phenomena, it is first shown that the object of grasping and the grasper are generally refuted, saying: Because there are no coarse or fine particles, there is no object other than consciousness. Because there is no object, there is no subject. Therefore, grasping and being grasped are separate. Thus it is said. Those who speak of things as external realities have two kinds of conceptualization of things: coarse and subtle. Of these, the coarse is not real, because when it is analyzed by parts, the idea of coarse is abandoned. Thus, that which does not have parts of direction does not give rise to the idea of coarse, like atoms. That which has parts of direction can be divided into many parts by distinctions such as east. Therefore, the idea of coarse is false. The direction of the atom is also unreasonable, because in either case, whether it has parts or does not have parts, it cannot be an atom. Thus, if it has parts, it can be analyzed into other parts, so it is not reasonable to be an atom, because it is accepted that the smallest limit of form is an atom. If it does not have parts, then like consciousness, it does not abide in the object, so how can it be an atom? Furthermore, the school that says that atoms do not have parts is seen to have many faults. Thus, do the atoms combine to produce actions such as the generation of consciousness? Or do they establish it without combining? If it is the former, if they combine by parts, they become part-possessing, and if they combine by all of themselves, then no matter how many atoms there are, they will not increase in volume compared to the first atom, so just as the first atom cannot accomplish the desired meaning, many atoms cannot accomplish it even if they gather, because the volume of atoms that have gathered and not gathered does not

Because of similarity. If atoms, when combined with others, the volume increases more and more with the number of atoms combined, is there no fault? This is also unreasonable. Like this, when an atom combines with another, does the initial atom itself increase in volume? Or does another dharma arise that is different in volume from the previous one? In either case, if they do not have the power to suppress space, they should not be larger in volume than atoms. If they suppress space, because they can be divided, like houses and so on, they are not real. If they exist without combining, is there no fault? In that case, material things would enter each other without obstruction, because there is space for other atoms to fit between similar atoms. If the atoms do not combine with each other, but are in a connected state, so there is no space for other atoms? What is meant by a connected state? Does it mean that other atoms cannot be found? What is that? Is it because they are partially combined with each other, or because other dharmas connect them and they cannot find a place? The first case is not accepted. If it is the second case, then is the connection that connects the two atoms also composed of atoms, or is it not a material thing? If it is the first case, then if we examine whether that connection is combined or not combined with the connected ones, it is unreasonable because the fault is the same. If that connection is not a material thing, so there is no examination of combination and non-combination? In that case, since that connection exists between the two connected ones, how can it be said that other atoms cannot find a place? Not being a material thing, because it does not abide in a place, it is not obstructing a place. Therefore, the so-called being in a connected state is unreasonable. If it depends on existing without combining? The fault has already been stated before. Furthermore, for this sect, both the unaggregated atoms and the atoms in the aggregated state are equally not combined with other atoms of the same kind, so the difference between producing a result and not producing a result is also unreasonable. If other atoms
