Because it is free from the three characteristics of arising, abiding, and ceasing. Being spontaneously accomplished means that it is the nature of the Dharmakaya because it has abandoned the two obscurations along with their habitual tendencies. Not being understood by others means that it is to be realized by the wisdom of one's own individual awareness. These three are for one's own benefit. Comprehending these three through self-arising wisdom is knowing. Showing those who have not realized it as one has realized it oneself is compassion. Destroying the suffering of others and its causes with these two, knowledge and compassion, is power; these three are for the benefit of others. Furthermore, as it is said: "Without thought, without duality, without conceptualization, the side of purity, clarity, and antidote, whatever is free from attachment to whatever, that which has the nature of the two truths is the Dharma." Thus, the Dharma Jewel, which has the nature of the two truths of complete purification and possesses eight qualities, is such that the three, without thought, without duality, and without conceptualization, are the Truth of Cessation, which is free from the attachment of beings, because it cannot be examined by conceptual thought in four ways, and because it is free from both karma and afflictions, and because it is without the conceptualization of improper attention. The three aspects of purity, clarity, and antidote are the Truth of the Path, by which one is free from attachment, because it is pure by being free from opposing factors, and because it makes clear the suchness of all knowable things as they are and as many as they are, and because it acts as an antidote to the darkness that obstructs the seeing of reality. Furthermore, the Sangha: "Among all things as they are and as many as they are, because of the purity of wisdom's vision, the assembly of wise ones who do not turn back, possess unsurpassed qualities." Thus, the assembly of noble Bodhisattvas who do not turn back, possessing the wisdom of knowing all things as they are by realizing that the mind is naturally luminous, and seeing all sentient beings as having the essence of the Tathagatagarbha, the nature of the Dharmadhatu, possessing the wisdom of knowing all things as many as they are; these are within the scope of the Mahayana. Secondly, the Dharma Jewel has four points: dividing it into the Teaching and the Holders of the Teaching, especially explaining that the Teaching possesses four confidences, establishing the connection between sound and meaning as the Teaching, and explaining the connection between the Path and Cessation as the Realization. The first point is that there are two aspects of the sacred Dharma: the Teaching is the three pitakas, and the Realization is the two, the Path and Cessation. To that,

To uphold the Dharma of scripture is to speak of the Three Baskets; to uphold the Dharma of realization is to accomplish the Three Jewels of training. Secondly, any scripture whose expressed meaning accords with the meaning of the two truths, whose expressing Dharma, the collection of names, sentences, and letters, is perfectly pure and connected with the function of abandoning the afflictions of the three realms, and whose speech reveals the benefits of peaceful Nirvana, is the speech of the righteous Buddha. Conversely, if it does not possess these characteristics, it is other than the speech of the Buddha. Thirdly, that which merely shows the essence of a thing is a name; that which shows the distinction is a sentence. The appearance of letters such as Āli (藏文,梵文天城体:अलि,梵文罗马拟音:ali,汉语字面意思:阿黎) and Kāli (藏文,梵文天城体:कलि,梵文罗马拟音:kali,汉语字面意思:嘎黎) as a general sound is the expressing Dharma; the appearance of impermanence, suffering, etc., as a general meaning is the expressed meaning. The expressing sound and the expressed meaning are related and not deceptive, which is the scripture that has become a valid means of knowledge. Those mere words that are unrelated are unelucidated scriptures, merely appearing as words. Fourthly, the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, such as the four mindfulnesses, gathered by those who are learning and those who are not learning, are the Dharma of realization. Thirdly, the Sangha Jewel: As it is said in the scriptures of the Great and Small Vehicles, those noble ones who, by training in the three trainings, ascend the five paths and generate realization are the Sangha Jewel. Because they know and gain faith, they do not waver in their refuge. The precepts of taking refuge are: at all times, rely on the Three Jewels and strive to make offerings to the Three Jewels; having taken refuge in the Three Jewels, do not rely on other gods, do not take non-Dharma as the path, and do not take non-Sangha as friends. As it is said in the sutra, "Whoever goes for refuge to the Buddha..." and so on. Secondly, on generating the mind of enlightenment, there are two aspects: general and specific. First, regarding the basis and nature of generating the mind. First, the mind of aspiration can arise even in gods, nagas, and others who are devoted to the Great Vehicle and desire to attain Buddhahood. As it is said, when explaining the mind, the sons of the gods generated the mind of enlightenment, and in the Questions of the Ocean, twenty-one thousand nagas generated the mind of enlightenment.
