Abstaining from the other three places besides those related to alcohol and places of dissipation is the fourth limb. Why? Because in this way, at that time, constantly dancing and singing, the sound of musical instruments, incense and garlands of flowers, tall beds and huge beds, and relying on untimely food, etc., when seeing oneself slightly detached, one will constantly remember: I am practicing the Uposatha with the Uposatha. Abstaining from alcohol, etc., is the fifth limb, so even if one thinks, "I am abiding in mindfulness," that limb is intoxicated and confused by alcohol, and involuntarily indulges in it. Third, in the eight limbs of the Uposatha, abandoning dancing, etc., garlands, etc., is made into two limbs, and adding the abandonment of taking gold and silver, the ten things to be abandoned, until the end of life, is the precepts of the Shramanera parents. Why is it that from the precepts of the Uposatha, the precepts of the Shramanera add the abandonment of taking gold and silver? Because the Shramanera abides in the direction of renunciation, for the renunciate, the two places are not dignified, and are not in accordance with the precepts, like falling to the extreme of the decline of desire, the joy of play, and striving to act as one pleases with adornment, and the enjoyment of accumulation. Therefore, in order to abandon the first place that is not in accordance with the precepts, the abandonment from the sound of singing and musical instruments, etc., to untimely food is established; in order to abandon the second place, the abandonment of taking gold and silver is established, because gold and silver are the root and main of all accumulation. For the householder's side, the fault of accumulation is not so great, and there is no inconsistency with the precepts, therefore the abandonment of taking gold and silver is not established in the limbs of the Uposatha. Why are the sounds of singing, dancing, and musical instruments, incense, garlands of flowers, perfumes, etc., counted as one limb in the Uposatha, but as two limbs in the Shramanera? Because for the householder, if one violates it in any way, one only needs to confess one fault, and in order not to have to confess two, an intermediate treatment is also made, and the training is summarized into one, while with the precepts of renunciation

If (the behavior) is inconsistent, then it is necessary to confess two kinds of transgressions. In order to avoid (the Bhikshuni precepts) becoming one (precept), the (precepts) were made heavier, and two branches were added. The precepts of a Bhikshuni are: Because women have more afflictions, in order to gradually become a Bhikshuni, on top of what a Shramanerika should abandon: do not walk alone on the road, do not swim across the river, do not touch a man, do not stay in the same room with a man, do not conceal faults, and do not facilitate (others) receiving full ordination. These are known as the six dharmas of Bhikshunis. Taking Salisaram, shaving the hair of the secret place, digging the earth, and cutting blue grass and so on. Taking food without being given, and eating stored food, these should be avoided. As mentioned above, there are also six kinds of conforming dharmas. As stated in the Garland of Flowers Sutra, one should learn the six root dharmas and the six conforming dharmas. Fourth, the precepts of a Bhikshu are: abandoning the four Parajikas, the thirteen Sanghavasesas, the thirty Nissaggiya Pacittiyas, the ninety Pacittiyas, the four Patidesaniyas, the one hundred and twelve Sekhiyas, altogether abandoning two hundred and fifty-three things to be abandoned. The precepts of a Bhikshuni are: abandoning the three hundred and sixty-four (offenses) divided into five categories of offenses, which are to be abandoned by being born in a female body. The precepts of a Bhikshu have four branches, namely: the branch of being fully ordained, and the corresponding basis of truly taking the foundation of the Dharma's training, and the branch of protecting the minds of others, and the branch of truly taking the assembly of training and protecting it. Among them, the prayer and the performance of the basic karma, and how to increase the foundation of training, is the first branch. After that, conforming to the Bhikshu's precepts in the Pratimoksha Vinaya, and guarding and practicing all the training that corresponds to it, is the second branch. The ritual and the perfect conduct that possess these two branches are the third branch. Fearing even the slightest fault, and in order to prevent offenses from arising, and in order to correct offenses that have already arisen, truly taking the foundation of training, that is, learning, is the fourth branch.
