Now, is meditation the most supreme? What is the use of the wisdom of hearing and thinking? Without the wisdom of hearing and thinking that cuts off the superimposition on reality, even if samadhi reaches its peak, one can only attain the mind-only of dhyana and the formless realm, but cannot attain liberation. Therefore, the combination of the wisdom that understands reality and the single-pointed samadhi is the ladder to ascend the five paths. The Dharmakaya of the perfect Buddha is also the result of the wisdom of hearing, thinking, and meditating that realizes the suchness of things without distortion, and through practice reaches its peak, as stated in all the sutras and tantras. Therefore, the three, hearing, thinking, and meditating, must be combined. The Compendium of Manifest Knowledge states: "Without relying on hearing and thinking, merely relying on the practice of meditation, one cannot abide in the Dharma; without relying on meditation, merely relying on the practice of hearing and thinking, one cannot abide in the Dharma; only by relying on both and abiding in both can one be said to abide in the Dharma." Thus it is said. Fourth, the stages of experiential realization are five: the path of accumulation, the path of preparation, the path of seeing, the path of meditation, and the path of no more learning. The first is the path of accumulation, the four paths of accumulation, namely the three types of twelve, the small is the wisdom of the four mindfulnesses, and the great is the samadhi of the four miraculous feet, all of which are brought to perfection. The second is the path of preparation, obtaining a small clear appearance when grasping has no self-nature is warmth, obtaining a medium appearance is the peak, obtaining a large appearance is forbearance, and obtaining a clear appearance when grasping has no self-nature is the supreme Dharma; the path of preparation has four aspects of decisive discrimination, even if the Dharmadhatu has not manifested, it is said that clear appearances gradually arise in the Dharma-nature of the non-duality of grasping and apprehended. That is, in the stages of warmth and peak, the five faculties are cultivated as antidotes to non-belief, etc.; in the stages of forbearance and supreme Dharma, the five powers are cultivated, so clear appearances are gradually obtained in the Dharma-nature, and finally in the path of seeing, the Dharma-nature of truth will manifest. The third, the path of seeing, has three aspects: the way of arising of coemergent and subsequent cognitions illustrated by examples, cultivating the seven branches, the way of reaching perfection, and the way of obtaining hundreds of thousands of twelve qualities. First, just as a blind person sees forms, children have not previously seen emptiness, that is, the Dharma-nature of the emptiness of the two selves.

I, just as a newborn baby can see the sun's disc slightly but cannot see it completely. The Hinayana noble ones also only see the Dharma-nature of emptiness of the self of a person, but do not completely see the Dharma-nature of emptiness of the two selves. The Mahayana Path of Seeing directly sees the emptiness of the two selves, free from elaboration, in meditative equipoise, and in the subsequent attainment, it seems that sixteen moments of knowledge and forbearance arise. Second, as stated in the Differentiation of Dharma and other texts, the manner in which the seven limbs of enlightenment are perfected on the Path of Seeing has already been explained. Third, the manner of obtaining the one hundred and twelve qualities is easy to understand. The statement above that they increase tenfold is incorrect. Because the qualities of the eighth ground and above cannot be expressed in numbers, they are described by multiplying by the number of dust particles in the three thousand great thousand worlds. If you want to know, you should look at the Madhyamakavatara. Fourth, the Path of Cultivation has two aspects: a brief explanation and a detailed explanation. First, the Path of Cultivation is for familiarizing oneself with the Dharma-nature that has already been seen on the Path of Seeing. The second has two aspects: explaining the nature of the ten grounds and how the cultivation of the noble path is perfected. The first has three aspects: identifying the ten grounds, combining them with the ten perfections, and explaining the qualities of abandonment, realization, and merit of each. First, as stated in the Ornament: "Being close to enlightenment, and seeing the accomplishment of the welfare of sentient beings, joy arises, therefore it is called the Joyful One." Like this, because seeing the Dharma-nature not seen before, being close to enlightenment, and seeing the accomplishment of the welfare of sentient beings, the first ground is the Joyful One. "Violating discipline, striving to be free from defilement, therefore it is considered the Stainless Ground." Like this, because the perfection of morality is complete, and there is no defilement of violating discipline, the second ground is the Stainless One. "Because it makes the vast Dharma appear, it is the Luminous One." Like this, because the power of samadhi makes oneself and others luminous, it is the Luminous One. "Like this, the Dharma in harmony with enlightenment, burns completely, like light. Being in accordance with this, this ground burns the two obscurations, therefore it is the Flaming One." Like this, because the firewood of the two obscurations can be burned, and the flames burn, the fourth ground is called the Flaming One.
