Belongs to the category of anger. Harmfulness is being bound by a lack of love, and inflicting humiliation and harm on other sentient beings through beatings and the like; this belongs to the category of anger. Shamelessness and recklessness are the opposite of the previously mentioned shame and conscientiousness, respectively not refraining from misdeeds for oneself, and not refraining for others. These two belong to the category of the three poisons. Lethargy is the lack of clarity in thought towards an object, which makes the mind unusable for virtuous actions and causes it to become dull. This belongs to the category of ignorance. Excitement is the mind being distracted by recalling past excitement and playfulness, causing the mind to be unpacified. This belongs to the category of attachment. Disbelief is the lack of faith in cause and effect, truth, etc., and is the opposite of faith. Laziness is being attached to the comfort of idleness such as sleeping and resting, and therefore not being interested in virtuous actions. These two belong to the category of ignorance. Carelessness is not guarding the mind towards contaminated dharmas, allowing it to be unrestrained, and is the opposite of carefulness. This belongs to the category of the three poisons. Forgetfulness is the afflicted mindfulness that repeatedly forgets the objects of the afflictions in the mind. Distraction is the mind being strongly interested in any of the objects of the three poisons. This also belongs to the category of the three poisons. Non-intelligence is the afflicted wisdom that is associated with ignorance, which is ignorant of what should and should not be done, and causes one to not know and engage in the actions of body and speech. The four variable factors are: regret, sleep, investigation, and analysis. These four are called variable because they change into virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral states depending on the influence of friends. Among them, regret is the mental remorse for having done or not done something in the past, later feeling that it was not good to have done or not done that thing. Sleep is the mental factor that, based on any cause of sleep such as undigested food, causes the six consciousnesses to involuntarily withdraw inward. Both of these belong to

For those with afflictions, it belongs to the category of ignorance. Virtue and the unspecified belong to the category of mind or wisdom. Investigation (Vitarka) is: Focusing on any of the nature or distinctions of a person or a phenomenon, it is the coarse mind that engages in the mode of searching everywhere, asking "What is this?". Analysis (Vicara) is: Focusing on the meaning sought by investigation, it is the subtle mind that individually distinguishes with the mode of certainty, saying "This is this, and that is that." Both of these belong to the category of mind when the mind does not manifestly cognize the object, and to the category of wisdom when it manifestly cognizes the object. Third, the fourteen non-associated compositional factors are: from attainment to the collection of names, phrases, and letters. Among them, attainment is: the imputation upon the state of increase or decrease of virtuous, non-virtuous, and unspecified phenomena. Differentiating it, there are three: seed, power, and manifestation. The first is: future phenomena that are innately able to arise and exist by their own nature. The second is: future phenomena arising from practice that are able to arise and exist if sought through conditions. The third is: any phenomenon whose own characteristic presently exists. Non-attainment is: the imputation upon the state of non-possession of any phenomenon. For example, just as the mind-stream that has not attained the Dharma of the Noble Ones is labeled as an ordinary being. Homogeneity is: the imputation upon the state of beings' ripened aggregates being of the same kind. For example, just as the aggregates of humans are of the same kind as humans. Non-perception is: when beings are born in the realm of the gods without perception, due to the power of previously cultivating the absorption of non-perception, the state of the mind-stream in which the mind and mental factors, gathered by the six aggregates, cease by their own nature. The two absorptions are: the absorption of non-perception and the absorption of cessation. The first is: relying on the mind of the fourth dhyana, blocking the six aggregates, and applying the mind with the perception of liberation and the path to liberation, it is the imputation upon the state of the mind-stream in which the mind and mental factors gathered by the six aggregates are temporarily prevented from arising. The person entering absorption is: an ordinary being who, in a perverted way, enters into a pretended pure conduct, that is, enters into what is contrary to liberation and the means of liberation.
