Collected from All the Scriptures Collected from All the Scriptures This is the beginning of the work called "Collected from All the Scriptures." I prostrate to all the Buddhas and their retinues in the ten directions! With the rays of his wisdom, dispelling the darkness of views, revealing the true nature of the Dharma, I bow in homage to that Sage. Having carefully collected from all the scriptures and their commentaries, to elucidate the profound meaning of the Dharma, this treatise will be clearly analyzed. Here, from the scriptures and commentaries of the Sugata, having gathered the essential words and meanings, in a concise and accessible manner, to clearly explain the meaning desired by those who wish for liberation, namely, the ground, path, and fruit. This treatise, called "Collected from All the Scriptures," will be explained in three parts: the meaning of the title of the text, the system of the text that bears the title, and the method of arranging the complete explanation of the text. First, regarding the first of these three, the bilingual rendering and the prostration to the deity that corresponds to the meaning of the title. The middle part has three points: the preliminaries for engaging in the composition, the nature of the treatise to be engaged in, and the preliminaries for completing the task. The first point is further divided into two parts, the first of which is to show the preliminaries for increasing merit, namely, the praise of offering. The Teacher benefits the world, etc., this is one verse. There are three aspects to this. First, the meaning of the necessity is that noble beings, at the beginning of any undertaking, pay homage to the deity in whom they have faith. Therefore, in order for the author of the treatise himself to conform to the conduct of the noble, and to proclaim the great qualities of the Teacher, by prostrating, he generates merit for himself and his followers. Second, the meaning of the summary is to show the manner of paying homage to the Buddha who possesses the perfection of two benefits. Third, the meaning of the words is to state the prostration. To whom is the prostration made? He who subdues the discordant aspects of the three doors is the Sage, namely, the Hearers and Solitary Realizers. They are also governed by his command, hence the Lord, namely, the Buddha, the Bhagavan. What kind of distinction of qualities does he possess? And in what way does one prostrate to him? He is the one who has attained the ultimate perfection of the twofold benefit of self and others. Thus, regarding the benefit of self,

ī dgra las, which means: the unfavorable enemies are the afflictions and the obscurations of knowledge, because they become obstacles to the path of liberation and omniscience. The antidote is non-conceptual wisdom, which achieves complete victory by abandoning these obscurations along with their predispositions. In terms of benefiting others, there are two aspects: the essence and its cause. The first is: the Teacher, who teaches all beings through the three kinds of miracles, therefore the Teacher shows the methods of higher rebirth and definite goodness to the world of gods and humans in an undeceiving way, thereby achieving temporary and ultimate benefits, so it is called the Benefactor. The second is: Wisdom and, possessing the wisdom of suchness and the wisdom of all kinds, and the great compassion without object, the number and power are immeasurable, possessing the immeasurable. Among them, wisdom can reveal the truth as it is, and compassion only brings benefits. As it is said in the Commentary on Valid Cognition: "Because of compassion and wisdom, protect the truth and accomplish it." And so on. Therefore, wisdom and compassion are the cause of perfect benefit to others. Secondly, the commitment to begin writing the branch of accomplishing the task is one verse, such as "Deep and." There are also three aspects to this, the first, the reason for the necessity is, as it is said: "The holy ones do not make too many promises, and if they promise because of difficulty, it is like drawing a picture on a stone, and even if they die, they will not change." Like this, in order to complete the promised task. The second, the meaning of the summary is that it shows the four aspects of the necessary meaning of the treatise, the content to be explained, and so on. In this way, the one sentence "Deep and" shows the content to be explained, and the two sentences "All afflictions" and so on show the most fundamental necessity, and the last sentence shows the necessity, because this treatise is written in order to realize the content to be explained. The relationship is shown by the implication of necessity, so there is no need to state it directly. The third, the meaning of the words is, to speak honestly, is to speak of this sacred Dharma. What is the Dharma? Because it is difficult to understand, it is profound, and the two selflessnesses, the nature is the suchness of Dharma, and the infinite characteristics, detailed classifications, and so on, so it is vast, aggregates, elements, and sources.
