It is said that one can achieve fruition if one is able to alternate between meditative states. This is because no one other than the Buddha is capable of doing so. Therefore, one is able to deliberately and continuously enter the streams of samsaric and nirvanic minds, and thus achieve fruition. That is, if one can manifest three types of samsaric and nirvanic minds through a single alternating meditation, one achieves a small fruition. If one can manifest fifteen types of minds through a single alternating meditation, one achieves a very great fruition. Such things should be understood. Fifth, by fully cultivating the small cause and the like, these five in sequence, one achieves the five pure abodes, from the not-so-great fruition up to Akanishta. As it is said: "Therefore, there are five aspects, only five pure abode births." Second, examining where the fruition is obtained, there are two: a summary and an explanation. First, the summary: upward transference also has two types from the perspective of cause: reaching the end of Akanishta and reaching the end of the Peak of Existence. Among them, the person who practices higher insight goes to Akanishta by alternately meditating on samsaric and nirvanic dhyanas. The person who practices calm abiding, by experiencing the taste of the dhyana that has arisen in their continuum, gradually passes through other realms of form and formlessness, except for the Great Brahma and the Pure Abodes, and goes to the Peak of Existence. These are those who have the karma to experience results in other lifetimes, are dull-witted, and have great afflictions. Second, the detailed explanation has two parts: going to Akanishta and reaching the end of the Peak of Existence. The first has three aspects: leaping, which is when one cultivates the fourth dhyana alternately here, experiences the taste of the first, declines from the second and above, and is born in the Brahma host in the future. There, by the power of previous habituation, one cultivates the fourth dhyana alternately, and then is born in Akanishta and attains nirvana. Second, half-leaping is the same as the previous one, and from the Brahma host, one is born in any of the three lower Pure Abodes, and then enters Akanishta and attains nirvana. Third, dying and transferring in all places, which is when one declines from alternating meditation, gradually passes through all other form realms except for the Great Brahma, and finally attains nirvana in Akanishta. The Great Brahma is a place where the object of view and the lord are one, so an arya is not born there, while the Peak of Existence

The ultimate attainment is not to go to the Pure Abodes because one has not cultivated meditative concentration. The second is approaching the formless realm, which refers to those non-returners who, to be free from attachment to form, are born in the formless realm and attain nirvana. If we differentiate this, because there is no intermediate existence in the formless realm, there are four types, such as attaining nirvana after birth, except for those who attain nirvana in the intermediate state. There is no distinction of three increments in this upward transfer, because this is the practice of abiding in peace, so it is not possible to perform increments and so on. The third is visible dharma tranquility, which refers to non-returners who manifest nirvana at the very moment when the noble path arises. The fourth is body realization, which refers to a learner who possesses a hundred liberations. The fourth pair concerns the Arhats, including identifying the entry point and the abiding place, and which path leads to detachment from what. In the first part, the first of the two results of entry is that the eight faults of the peak of existence are exhausted, and entering the vajra-like samadhi of the uninterrupted path to abandon the ninth is the entry of an Arhat. The second is the state of fruition, when the liberation of abandoning the ninth of the peak of existence arises, and the knowledge of exhaustion and non-arising arises, because the learning is complete, one is no longer a learner, and because one is worthy of being offered to by the three realms, one is said to have attained Arhatship. The second part is how detachment is attained on which ground by which path. Detachment from the peak of existence is attained by the path that transcends the world, not by the path of the world, because there is no other ground above the peak of existence. For the eight grounds below the peak of existence, detachment can be attained by both the worldly and the transcendent paths, because the proximity of the first dhyana, both with and without outflows, can cause one to be detached from desire in the desire realm, and the afflictions above the first dhyana are abandoned by the proximity of the higher grounds, detachment is attained by the worldly path, and the abandonment of the lower and self-grounds without outflows is attained by the path that transcends the world. The second is the way to quickly attain liberation in three lifetimes. If the path is quick for the Hearers, they can attain liberation in three lifetimes. In the first lifetime, they generate the roots of virtue that are in accordance with liberation, in the second lifetime, they generate the roots of virtue that are in accordance with discernment, and in the third lifetime, they perfect the noble path up to and including the path of seeing.
