It is laziness. Its antidotes are: the desire to strive for meaning, the faith of manifest conviction, the effort of applying to habituation, and the cultivation of the four pliabilities of body and mind. The actual antidote is effort. Its place is desire. Its cause is faith. The result of effort is the pliability of mind. When engaging in application, forgetting the instructions is a fault. Its antidote is the mindfulness of not forgetting the instructions with the mind. When engaging in the main practice, sinking and excitement are faults. Their antidote is the awareness that observes them. When sinking and excitement arise, not conforming to sinking and excitement is a fault. Its antidote is the attention that focuses the mind on the antidotes to sinking and excitement. When sinking and excitement spontaneously arise without inequality, focusing the mind is a fault. Its antidote is equanimity, which is effortless, relaxed, and without haste. As it is said in the Madhyāntavibhāga: "Not forgetting the object, sinking and excitement, the application of abandoning them, and abiding in peace." So it is said. The third is that the general nature is samādhi, which has four aspects from the perspective of assistance: the samādhi of desire relies on respectful application and touches the one-pointedness of mind; the samādhi of diligence relies on constant application and touches the one-pointedness of mind; the samādhi of attention relies on planting seeds through prior habituation and touches the one-pointedness of mind; and the samādhi of action relies on the cause of thoroughly discriminating the Dharma taught by others and touches the one-pointedness of mind. The fourth is that whatever one desires to manifest, such as miraculous powers, and trusting in it, it will be manifested. The fifth is that it is cultivated during the stage of the great accumulation path. Why is samādhi called the foot of miraculous powers? Because it is the basis for the attainment of all qualities. Therefore, it is said as such. The second has two parts: the first is the cultivation of the five faculties at the heat and peak stages. This also has five aspects. The object of focus is the four truths, which are encompassed by the application of the noble path, and therefore become characterized by the nature of truth.

If. The method of cultivation is: with faith, in the manner of believing that all truths are to be known and abandoned, etc.; with diligence, in the manner of rejoicing in order to quickly realize the true nature of the truths; with mindfulness, in the manner of not forgetting the object and aspect of realizing the true nature of the truths; with samadhi, in the manner of one-pointedness of mind; and with wisdom, in the manner of distinguishing the various aspects of the truths. The essence is: the five powers of faith, diligence, mindfulness, samadhi, and wisdom. Classification: All virtuous dharmas have the five powers of faith, etc. The result is: quickly attaining the path of seeing, and the foundation of the path of cultivation is accomplished. Secondly, the method of cultivating the five strengths in the supreme forbearance is: the object and method of cultivation here are the same as before. The essence is: the five, such as faith, increase in strength, and without mixing with opposing factors such as disbelief, only the antidote arises, which is called the five strengths. The result is: obtaining the supreme forbearance and accomplishing the path of seeing. The boundary is the forbearance and the supreme dharma. In the Madhyāntavibhāga-bhāṣya it says: "The faculties and the powers, and the factors of ascertainment, two by two." Thirdly, the path of seeing is the nature of the seven branches of enlightenment. The object here is: the true nature of the four noble truths. The method of cultivation is: with the mindfulness of the correct enlightenment branch, focusing on suffering, thereby seeking to be separated from suffering; focusing on the origin, thereby seeking to be separated from attachment to the origin; focusing on cessation, thereby seeking to realize cessation; focusing on the path that leads to cessation, thereby seeking to cultivate the path. The method of cultivating the remaining six branches is also the same as this. The essence is: the mindfulness that does not forget the object of the path of seeing, the wisdom that distinguishes the true nature of dharmas, the diligence that rejoices in virtuous dharmas, the uncontaminated joy that benefits body and mind, the perfect pliancy that makes body and mind serviceable, the samadhi of one-pointedness of mind, and the equanimity that enters without being disturbed by sinking or excitement. The way to become a branch is: mindfulness is the branch of the place, because with the power of mindfulness, the branches are not distracted from the object. Supreme Dharma
