These yogas of the three paths are unborn. The third is that the noble path does not arise when one abides in the eight worldly dharmas. In order to be in harmony with the arising of the noble path, one should abandon the eight worldly dharmas. That is to say, being happy when gaining profit and unhappy when not gaining profit, experiencing pleasant comfort and unpleasant suffering, openly speaking pleasing and displeasing words, and being happy and unhappy with praise in one's face and slander behind one's back are called the eight worldly dharmas. These should be abandoned with an equal mind. In the 'Letter to a Friend' it says: 'The wise of the world are indifferent to gain and loss, pleasure and pain, praise and blame, these eight worldly dharmas should not be the object of my mind, but should be treated with equanimity.' Thus it is said. Fourth, having abandoned the adverse conditions of the eight worldly dharmas in this way, in order to show that one must train in the twelve qualities that are conducive conditions, as an antidote to attachment to food, one does not possess more than one meal's worth of food for a day and night, this is the almsman; one eats as much as one wants without getting up from the seat where one started eating, and does not eat after getting up from the seat, this is the one-session eater; one only eats the amount of food that one initially accepted, and does not eat even if someone offers more later, this is the one who does not accept food offered later, these three. As an antidote to attachment to clothing, one does not possess extra clothing other than the three Dharma robes, namely the upper robe, the cotton robe, and the patchwork robe, this is the one who possesses three Dharma robes; one wears Dharma robes made only of coarse wool, this is the felt-wearer; one does not wear new clothes that are not suitable for the season, but only wears worn-out clothes that are suitable for the season, and one makes Dharma robes from rags discarded by others and wears them, this is the rag-wearer, these three. As an antidote to attachment to dwelling, one builds a hut one league away from the village and lives there, not living in the village or other monasteries, this is the aranyaka; one lives in the charnel ground, and lives only on the shrouds of the charnel ground and the food offered to the corpses, this is the charnel ground dweller; one lives under the trees of the monastery, this is the tree-dweller; one lives in a hut without a roof in the monastery, this is the roofless one.

There are four kinds of no, etc. As an antidote to attachment to dwelling places, not frequently changing one's dwelling place and remaining as it is, and spending the night in a cross-legged posture, these two are cross-legged practitioners. The fifth is, as stated in the sutra: 'Constantly viewing various forms, it is difficult to abandon the views of a householder; living dependent on others, the life of a renunciate is also difficult.' Like this, for those who have renounced, it is easy to generate five wrong livelihoods, therefore, teaching to abandon the five wrong livelihoods is: 'For the sake of gain and respect, first speak gentle and pleasing words.' This refers to flattery. 'Persuading others for gain, praising the possessions of others.' This refers to persuasion. 'Measuring with cunning, publicly denigrating others for gain.' This refers to cunning measurement. 'Desiring more because of what has been gained, praising what was previously obtained.' This refers to seeking more with what has been gained. 'For the sake of gain and respect, feigning to subdue the senses.' This refers to feigning, as well as making a living through farming, business, and selling the Dharma. Because it is wrong livelihood, it should be abandoned. Fourth, elaborating on the distinctions is divided into two: the ways of cultivating the five paths individually, and the ways in which realization arises in the continuum of the practitioner. The first is divided into five: the path of accumulation, the path of preparation, the path of seeing, the path of cultivation, and the path of no more learning. First, the ordinary path of accumulation is: the Pratimoksha vows, guarding the doors of the senses, knowing the measure of food, not sleeping in the upper and lower parts of the night but striving in yoga, and abiding in mindfulness, etc. The special path of accumulation is divided into three: the small is the four mindfulnesses, the medium is the four correct abandonments, and the large is the four legs of miraculous power. First, there are five: object, aspect, essence, necessity, and in what situation to cultivate. The first is: cultivating by focusing on body, feeling, mind, and phenomena. Why are these established as objects? Because the inverted mind thinks that the body is the object of my dwelling, feeling is the basis of my enjoyment, mind is my object, and phenomena are the basis of my afflictions and purification, in order to be liberated from these inverted cognitions. Among them, the body is divided into three: inner body, outer body, and
