Among the four schools of thought, the first is the Vaibhashika school: Because they focus on studying and discussing the "Mahavibhasha Shastra," they are called Vaibhashikas. Their treatises include: "The Seven Abhidharma Treatises," "Mahavibhasha Shastra," "Abhidharmakosha," and so on. Their teachers include: Vasumitra, Dharmatrata, Gunamati, Bhadanta Dharmapala, and so on. Their tenets are: appearance is form, the dominant is mind, the attendant is mental factors, the state is unconditioned phenomena, the nature of phenomena is the basis of unconditioned phenomena, and the knowable is the object and its distinctions, which are their established views. These five are like iron skewers strung together, each existing as a real entity. Among them, form is the same as the form aggregate mentioned earlier. They believe that form is the ultimate particle, without any directional parts, because if it had directional parts, it could be divided into different parts, and then it could not be called the ultimate particle. Forms, etc., that become sense objects are collections of ultimate particles. Moreover, the wind that contains and holds the circumference with intervals gathers them together, so they do not separate from each other. As stated in "Establishment of External Objects": From different directions, there are many; for some things, it is just slightly surrounding from all directions; it can be said that the particle is not of the nature of having parts. Thus it is said. Mind is the mental faculty, which is the collection of consciousness aggregates mentioned earlier. The others have already been discussed. Form, etc., that are apprehended and eye consciousness that apprehends are real entities, and when knowing them simultaneously, they are considered to be in contact before the appearance of the object's aspect. As it is said: The wisdom born of the senses has no aspect, it knows the accumulation of ultimate particles as real. Thus it is said. The senses with support are the cause of observing things, as stated in the "Abhidharmakosha": The eye sees forms with support, it is not the consciousness that relies on it, why? Because forms with intervals are not seen. Thus it is said. They believe that the three times—past, present, and future—all exist as real entities. If the past and future were not real, then there would be no attachment to them, and the results of past actions would not arise. They say that it will definitely change. Destroying with destructive things like hammers, and distinguishing the branch dharmas such as form, smell, etc., one by one with wisdom, and no longer being attached to them, are all conventional truths, such as when destroying with a hammer.
