Because it cannot be seen, it is not manifest. It is not said that the Purusha resides within the Pradhana. When the Purusha desires to enjoy objects, the Pradhana emanates various transformations such as forms, and when the Purusha enjoys these transformations with attachment, it is called Samsara. When some Purushas become weary of objects, they cultivate meditation in solitude and attain the divine eye. When they know that the same nature, like a demoness, emanates the collection of transformations, then the nature, as if ashamed, gathers the transformations. No transformation occurs to the Purusha, and the Purusha no longer enjoys objects, but abides in its own state, then it is called the attainment of liberation. The Pradhana itself is called Prakriti when it produces transformations, and all transformations arise from that Prakriti. Moreover, for that Prakriti, the first is like a double-sided crystal mirror, which is called Buddhi or Mahat. From within, the image of knowledge appears, and from without, the image of objects appears. From Ahamkara, sixteen transformations arise. That is to say, there are three types of Ahamkara: the courageous, the dark, and the dusty. From the first, the eleven senses from the eye to the mind arise. Among them, the five from the eye to the body are called the senses of intellect. The five from the hand to excretion are called the senses of action. The mind is the sense of both. From the dark Ahamkara, the five Tanmatras such as form arise. The dusty Ahamkara performs the function of both. From the five Tanmatras, the five great elements such as earth arise. As it is said, in the "Great Black Lord Tantra," it is said: "From nature arises the great," and so on. Among them, the Pradhana is the agent because it produces all transformations, but it is not produced by anything, so it is not the object. Mahat, and the Ahamkara and the five Tanmatras included by "etc.," are the objects born from the fundamental nature, but because they produce their respective transformations, they are also the agents. The eleven senses and the five elements, these sixteen are only the objects, because they do not produce results, so they are not the agents. The Purusha is not by anything.

Because it is not produced, it is not an action, and because it does not produce any results, it is not a doer either. Having explained that the five great elements arise from the five "mere" elements, from what do they arise? From smell arises earth, from sound arises space, from form arises water, from taste arises fire, and from tactile sensation arises wind. The term "qualities" (yon tan) is a tenet of the Vaisheshika school, not of the Samkhya school. Some of those Samkhyas, for example, like the view of a potter, just as various forms of vessels such as bowls arise from the proximate cause of clay, the Lord Ishvara, with intelligence as the forerunner, asserts that transformation from nature as the cause produces all things. That Ishvara possesses eight qualities, is permanent, and is distinct from the self. The eight qualities are "subtle" and so forth. Among them, because it creates and destroys the sentient world, it is "subtle." As it is said: With hands and feet, eyes and face and bodies, dividing many and destroying, therefore it is called subtle. So it is said. Because it creates and destroys the container world, it is "light." Space, wind, earth, and water and fire abide, gather and increase, therefore it is called light. So it is said. Here, it is not appropriate to offer. Because it creates and destroys both the sentient and container worlds, it is called "the lord who has become the owner." Exercising power over all things, those who abide and those who wander, doing whatever they wish, therefore it is called having become the owner. So it is said. Because it exercises the power of benefiting and harming all things, it is called "having become power." Dependent on self, having autonomy, there is no fear of anything, because everything has become power, therefore it is called having become power. So it is said. Because everything is accomplished by mere thought, it is called "gone everywhere." Places, food and dwellings, and whatever else is thought of by the mind, the mind does not linger, therefore it is called gone everywhere. So it is said. Because it has become the object of offering for all things, it is "worthy of offering." Having become an object of offering in the three realms, those who abide and those who wander, being offered by all things, therefore it is to be offered. So it is said. Because it accomplishes all qualities as desired, it is called "possessing as desired." Heart
