And, the thought-birth place of Great Brahma, for the sake of easy recitation of sentences, (it is called) the thought-birth place of Brahma, because life and color, etc., are greater than other Brahmas, so (it is called) Great Brahma, these three are the other three places of the first Dhyana. Relative to one's own upper level, because the light is weak, (it is called) Small Light, the light cannot be measured from the lower light place, so (it is called) Immeasurable Light, because it makes all other places bright, so (it is called) Radiant Light, these are the other three places of the second Dhyana. The joy of the mind, relative to the upper level, because there is a small joy, (it is called) Small Virtue, that joy cannot be measured from the lower level, so (it is called) Immeasurable Virtue, because joy greatly increases, (it is called) Increased Virtue, these are the other places of the third Dhyana. Just as the earth forms clouds, without covering, so (it is called) Cloudless, arising from immovable karma, so (it is called) Merit-born, relative to other places, the fruit is the largest among all children, so (it is called) Great Fruit, these are the other places of the children of the fourth Dhyana, the other upper places that are not mixed with ordinary people, because they are not greater than them, so (it is called) Not Great, because one has obtained special Samadhi, and is not troubled by afflictions, so (it is called) No Heat, extremely peaceful and beautiful before the eyes, so (it is called) Manifest Good, because seeing or looking is pure and good, so (it is called) Extremely Seen, in other places, there are no other superior qualities such as water fields better than this, so (it is called) Akanistha, these five are called Pure Abodes, because they are not mixed with ordinary people. These are the other places of the noble ones of the fourth Dhyana, the thought-birth place of Brahma is, there is no other place next to Great Brahma, therefore the other places of the form realm are sixteen. There are no other places in the formless realm, because there is no form. There are four kinds of differences in birth, the sphere of infinite space, the sphere of infinite consciousness, the sphere of nothingness, and the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. So where do these reside? Those who have attained the Samadhi of the formless realm, wherever they are reborn after death, in that very space, the four aggregates of the formless realm are formed and reside. Likewise, there is no place in the formless realm, birth.

"There are four kinds." It is said. Where does the formless die? It is said. Third, there are six ways to show the common characteristics of these. First, the measure between the place and other places is described: From Jambudvipa to the Thirty-Three Heavens, there are eighty thousand yojanas, and from the Thirty-Three Heavens to the Aviklavikalpa Heaven, there are eighty thousand yojanas. The measure between the upper places above that and the lower places below that should be calculated as double from top to top. How much is there from the lower place Jambudvipa to Aviklavikalpa, and how much is there from Aviklavikalpa to Tushita? How much is there from Jambudvipa to Santusita, and how much is there from that to Akanistha? As it is said: "From place to lower place as far as it exists, from that to that above is also the same." It is said. Those who have miraculous powers or are led by the gods of the upper realms, like this, except for relying on other miraculous powers, those in the lower realms cannot see the upper realms. Second, the measure of the body is: the bodies of the people of Jambudvipa are four cubits or two and a half cubits of their own. The bodies of Purvavideha, Aparagodaniya, and Uttarakuru all increase twice as much from the former to the latter. The eastern ones are eight cubits, the western ones are sixteen cubits, and the northern ones are thirty-two cubits. All are also their own four cubits. The measure of the bodies of the six desire gods, the Four Great Kings are one-fourth of a krosha, and those above each increase by one-fourth of a krosha from the lower ones. The measure of the bodies of Paranirmitavasavartin etc. should be known to become two and a half kroshas. The measure of the bodies of the first of the form realm, the Brahmaparisadya, is half a yojana, and those above that, starting from Parittabha, each increase by half a yojana from the lower ones to the upper ones, and Parittabha should be known to be two yojanas. From Parittabha upwards to Akanistha, it should be known that the bodies of the upper ones are twice as large as the lower ones. After saying this in general, what is specifically designated is: the measure of the body of Anabhraka, subtract three yojanas from the measure calculated as twice the lower one, and it should be known to be a measure of one hundred and twenty-five. In this way, the measure of the body of Akanistha is sixty thousand.
