One is because it gathers what is non-functional and unconditioned. Two is the meaning of gathering different kinds of things into one place with the mind, and the gate of arising of mind and mental factors, and the meaning of kind or source, which are the meanings of the words aggregates, sources, and realms respectively. Three is divided into two: a general examination of the three dharmas and a special examination of mind and mental factors. The first is divided into six aspects. First, examining which realm belongs to which: Where do these eighteen realms exist? Answer: All eighteen realms exist in the desire realm. There are fourteen realms in the form realm, except for the realms of smell, taste, and nose and tongue consciousness. Smell and taste are included in solid food, and those who are free from desire for solid food are born there, so these two do not exist. Because there is no place, there is no need to enjoy it. Therefore, the nose and tongue consciousnesses also do not exist. The nose and tongue faculties exist in order to make the support beautiful and to be close to speech. In the formless realm, there are the realms of mind, dharma, and mind consciousness, but the others do not exist, because they are free from desire for form. Second, examining defiled and undefiled: Among these eighteen realms, which are defiled and which are undefiled? The last three realms are both defiled and undefiled. This is because, like those included in the unconditioned and the path truth, they are not related to any of the six gates of outflows, and they do not increase whether with outflows as objects or in association. Therefore, they are undefiled, while the rest are defiled. Apart from these three realms, the remaining first fifteen realms are defiled, because they are related to any of the six gates of outflows, and the outflows increase through the way of objects and association. The six gates of outflows are: the nature of the outflow, related to the outflow, bound by the outflow, corresponding to the outflow, conforming to the outflow, and arising from the cause of the outflow. The first is afflictions and near afflictions. The second is those minds and mental factors that are associated with these. The third is
