Moreover, the ālaya-vijñāna of the nature of maturation, because it is the essence of wisdom, possesses the objects and aspects as described above, takes the body and performs the act of abiding, is the basis for imprinting the habits of all pervasively afflicted dharmas, and is the causal condition of the master of all currently pervasively afflicted dharmas, pervading the entire body from the soles of the feet to the crown of the head. The ālaya-vijñāna of the nature of habit is the habit of all pervasively afflicted dharmas, and it also exists in essence only as a potential, and because it is not established as a substance of consciousness, it has no object or aspect, it is not that substance from the aspect of maturation, nor can it be expressed in other ways, and it is the cause and condition of all pervasively afflicted dharmas. Therefore, although these two do not have separate objects in terms of substance, they are only different in characteristics. Among them, the first is also the ālaya because it is the basis for children to cling to as self, it is also consciousness because it grasps objects and aspects, and it is also maturation because it has become the essence of the complete ripening of karmic habits. Therefore, it is also called ālaya, also called the consciousness of ālaya, and also called the maturation consciousness. The latter, here, all pervasively afflicted dharmas are the nature of the result, or this also combines them as the nature of the cause, so it is ālaya, but because it is not consciousness, it is not the consciousness of ālaya, nor is it the maturation consciousness. From the extremely many karmic habits existing in the ālaya, the way in which the fruit of maturation arises is: the extremely heavy karmic habits will first produce maturation. If the weight is equal, then what appears at the time of death will ripen first. If the clarity or lack thereof at the time of death is equal, then what is more habitual will ripen first, and if that is also equal, then the result of the karma first performed will arise first. As it is said, as stated by Master Vasubandhu: "Karma in saṃsāra, whichever is heavy, whichever is near, whichever is habitual, whichever was done first, among these, the former, the former matures." As it is said. The ālaya of the nature of maturation is the cause of nirvāṇa, that itself abides in all

it has become the body of liberation for the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and the body of Buddhahood. However, the cause of Nirvana is not clearly explained. Whatever, the realm of beginningless time, is the abode of all dharmas, because it exists, all beings and Nirvana can be attained. This statement refers only to the fact that the Alaya-consciousness serves as the basis for the uncontaminated seeds. The third is the scriptural authority for proof, in the Explanation of the Thought-Determining Sutra, it says: 'Taking', there are two types of taking consciousness, namely the aspect of fruition and the aspect of seeds. The first is profound, because even the wise people of the world cannot fathom its depth. The second is subtle, because it has no substance, so it cannot be said to be different from this or different from that, so it is difficult to examine. For example, when a river flows naturally, just as it flows together with the various waves that arise from the cause of the wind, the Alaya-consciousness arises like a river without interruption even for a moment, and it arises together with the manifest consciousness like water waves, so it is said to flow like a river. I have not explained the self-nature of the Alaya-consciousness to those who are children with the lineage of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas in the way it is, because there is no need to explain it to them, and if it is explained, there will be faults. Why is it not necessary to explain it? Because it is encompassed by subtle objects of knowledge, and they do not value the knowledge of vast objects of knowledge. If it is explained, there will also be faults, because merely taking the body and continuously arising, etc., are in accordance with the self, so they will think that there is a self, and thus they will be far from obtaining the fruits they desire. Therefore, if one clings to the self, that is not permissible.' and so on. Second, regarding the afflicted mind, there are two aspects: its nature and the time of its arising and ceasing. The first is: the aspect of always thinking with pride, except for the three situations where it takes the Alaya-consciousness as its object, and which will be explained below, is the afflicted mind. Why is A
