The ground is burning, nailed with iron nails, and so on. From that, one will experience suffering for a long time. That sentient being is called the Extremely Hot Hell. The Hell of Uninterrupted Suffering is: heaps of fire come from all four directions, and the body of that sentient being becomes one flame. Except for wailing, the sentient being and the flame become indistinguishable. Because there is no break or interval in experiencing suffering, it is called the Hell of Uninterrupted Suffering. From that place, one will experience suffering for a long time, and that sentient being is called the Hell of Uninterrupted Suffering. Its vicinity is: on the four sides of the great hell of sentient beings, there are four doors, and outside the doors, there are four additional sufferings. Like this, first, outside the door, there are ashes burning up to the knees. When lifting and placing the feet there, flesh and skin, etc., will arise and perish. Connected to that, there is a mud of rotten corpses and feces, which is very foul-smelling. When one falls into it, one will fall there, and the head and feet, etc., will sink. The creatures there, worms with sharp beaks, will pierce the flesh, etc. Connected to that, there is a road filled with razors. When walking there, the flesh of lifting and placing the feet will arise and perish. Connected to that, there is a forest of sword-leaf trees. When one sits there for shade, swords will fall from the trees, cutting off limbs, and when one falls to the ground, hybrid dogs will pick up the remaining flesh and eat it. Connected to that, there is a grove of iron trees, the Shalmali forest. There, the guards force them to climb up and down. When climbing up, the thorns will face downwards. When climbing down, they will face upwards, piercing the body. The iron-beaked crows there will peck out the eyes and eat them. Connected to that, there is what is called the River of No Crossing, filled with boiling ash water. When one falls into it, people holding sticks on both sides will guard it, not letting them out. If they come out, they will be thrown face up on the burning iron ground, and their mouths will be pried open with iron tongs, and burning iron liquid or molten copper will be poured in. From that place, one will experience suffering for a long time, there.

The three, such as being filled with razors, are considered as one because they resemble weapons. These become sixteen due to the distinctions of the four directions. As it is said in the Treasury of Knowledge (Abhidharmakośa): "To all eight, add sixteen, fire not born and rotten mud, razor paths, etc., are rivers." It is said like that. Those beings born in the cold hells experience such cold suffering. Those born in the Blister Hell are struck by the great wind there, and their entire bodies shrink as if blisters are forming. The Bursting Blister Hell is where they shrink as if blisters are bursting. 'So tham thampa,' 'Kyi hud zerwa,' and 'A chu zerwa' are names given to those beings because they are words uttered under the duress of cold. Splitting like an উৎপལ་(藏文,梵文天城体,utpala,Sanskrit Romanization: utpala, meaning: blue lotus), is when the skin is beaten by the great wind there, turning blue and splitting into five or six cracks. Splitting like a lotus is when the skin goes beyond blue, turning red and splitting into ten or more cracks. Splitting like a great lotus is when the skin becomes very red and splits into a hundred or more cracks. Beings in the ephemeral hells experience such suffering. For example, the butcher of cows in Rajagriha (the capital of ancient Magadha, near Patna in Bihar), who was born as tall as a house, crying out during the day, coming from the sky. Also, the butcher's student, born in a place reeking of bones, being pecked at by crows, etc. Furthermore, they experience suffering like in the biography of the noble Geshe Dronsung. Those who dwell in its cause generate fear, that is: 'The moment a sinner's breath is cut off, the interval of time with hell, hearing of immeasurable suffering, whose mind is fearless and whose body does not break, is the nature of vajra.' It is said that sinners who have committed deeds that will surely lead to hell, when experiencing the suffering of hell, are only separated by the moment of the cessation of breathing in and out. As soon as the breath stops, they are immediately reborn in hell. Even so, those who, after hearing the immeasurable suffering of hell described above, whose minds are not afraid and whose bodies do not break, are
