In the summer, even the moon becomes hot, and in the winter, even the sun becomes cold. Those trees will become without fruit, and merely by being looked at by them, the rivers will dry up. It is said. For these inferior beings, in the summer, the moon becomes a cause of heat, and in the winter, the sun becomes a cause of cold. They experience such suffering of heat and cold. Merely by being looked at by them, the trees are filled with abundant fruits, and the branches are lush, but they will become without branches and fruits, appearing withered. The streams with eight qualities will also dry up, filled with burning ashes, filled with worms and impurities. How long will they experience such suffering? Some beings who continuously endure suffering without interruption, bound tightly by the ropes of evil deeds, will not die for five thousand or even ten thousand years. Those beings who continuously and constantly endure suffering, some of them can live to the end of their lifespan, five thousand or even ten thousand years, even without food and drink, they will not die, because they are tightly bound by the ropes of evil deeds. What is the cause of experiencing such suffering? Like this, all the various sufferings experienced by the hungry ghosts are the same kind of suffering, and what is the cause of obtaining these sufferings? It is because people are greedy and stingy, accustomed to stinginess, and it is not a noble act, it is an unwholesome and powerful act, as the Buddha said. As it is said in the Compendium: A stingy person will be reborn in the realm of hungry ghosts, and if they are reborn as a human, they will become poor. Just like that. Fourth, the suffering of humans. In the Four Hundred Verses it says: For noble people, it is mental suffering, and for ordinary people, it is physical suffering. These two sufferings destroy this world day by day. Just as it is said, kings and wealthy people

For the best of people, such as nobles, there is great suffering in guarding wealth and power, and fearing loss. For the inferior, such as slaves and the poor, there is the suffering of seeking food and clothing, and the physical suffering of hunger and thirst, which is immeasurable, seen, heard, and experienced. It is not necessary to elaborate on this. Fifth, regarding the two ways of contemplating the suffering of gods and demigods: Even in the heavens, although there is great bliss in enjoying the abundance of desirable objects, the suffering of death and transmigration is even greater than that bliss. Having thought thus, the virtuous do not crave even the heavens, which are destined to perish. As it is said: "Alas, chariots and various groves! Alas, ponds flowing gently! Alas, gods with sorrowful consciousness! Groaning, they fall to the earth!" Having thought thus, the virtuous, the realized ones, do not crave even the bliss of the heavens, for that bliss will also perish and is therefore without essence. If the gods are born miraculously and do not have the suffering of being cut to the point, how does suffering arise at the time of their death? Although there is no physical suffering, when they are seized by the signs of death, immense mental suffering arises. Therefore, it is taught: "The color of the body becomes unsightly, they dislike their seats, the flower garlands wither, the clothes become stained, and sweat, which was never present before, appears on the body." These five signs of death, which hasten the death and transmigration of the gods in the heavens, occur to the gods who dwell in the heavens, and are similar to the signs of death that hasten the death of people on earth. When the gods are about to die, the beautiful color of their bodies fades and becomes unsightly, they dislike sitting on their seats, the flower garlands of ornaments wither, the clothes become stained, and sweat, which was never present before, appears on the body. These five are what cause the gods to feel uneasy when they see them.
