To enter (the Dharma) is unreasonable. Therefore, towards my body and life, one should instantly generate a sense of closeness, and abandon the thought of hoping for a slight extension of time. As stated in the "Hundred Verses": "What is called procrastination, is nothing other than a moment of mind, if people do not know this, therefore, those who know themselves are rare in the world." Thus it is proclaimed. Having cultivated impermanence in this way, and generated the recognition of suffering, one should then cultivate the aspect of suffering. In general, all of the three realms are tormented by suffering in their respective ways. For example, the three lower realms are mostly afflicted by the suffering of suffering. As it is said in the scriptures: "The superior have mental suffering, the ordinary have physical suffering, these two sufferings destroy the world, day after day they continuously destroy." Thus it is said. Even among humans, kings and householders, those who are superior, guarding their existing kingdoms and enjoyments, and fearing loss, etc., have many mental sufferings. While servants and other ordinary people have many physical sufferings such as hunger, thirst, and fatigue. In short, everyone is tormented by two kinds of suffering day after day. The gods of the desire realm also have intense mental suffering at the time of death and falling, and the lower gods, when fighting with the Asuras, also have physical sufferings such as being cut and separated. All contaminated pleasures are unstable, like food mixed with poison, bound and only suffering. The gods of the form and formless realms, although temporarily transcending the suffering of suffering, are not free from the suffering of conditioning, like a rat smeared with poison, because they have no control over birth and death. Therefore, in general, one should regard all of the three realms as suffering. In particular, the yogi should regard his own body as if it were an enemy, the source of all suffering. For example, this body is composed of four hundred and four diseases caused by changes in the internal elements, as well as external harms such as poisons, weapons, and venomous snakes.

Because it is a vessel of suffering. Therefore, it is said in the *Shatashastra*: "Respect for the body and respect for the enemy, these two appear to be the same." Therefore, one should be certain that this body is the source of suffering, that it has no taste of happiness at all, and thereby abandon the inverted thought of happiness. In this way, by meditating on suffering, it is easy to realize the selflessness of the aggregates. After that, one should meditate on the aspects of emptiness and selflessness. Like this, one should meditate on selflessness as an antidote to clinging to the aggregates as one's own nature; one should meditate on emptiness as an antidote to the grasping of reality controlled by a separate self. Regarding the way to meditate on these, one should also meditate by examining whether the aggregates are one with or different from the self. Since the previous reasoning has already been explained, I will not elaborate further. After that, one should meditate on the truth of the origin with the aspects of cause, origin, arising, and condition. Among these, afflictions and the actions that arise from their power are the truth of the origin. They are the cause of generating the suffering of samsara. They do not merely generate a part of suffering, but generate all kinds of suffering, so they are the origin. They do not merely generate a little suffering, but generate intense suffering that is unbearable and difficult to endure, so they are arising. They also do not merely arise once, but transmit from one life to another and generate suffering for a long time, so they are a condition. In this way, one should meditate on the origin as something to be abandoned through the four aspects of faults. After that, one should meditate on the truth of cessation with the aspects of cessation, peace, excellence, and liberation. Among these, the complete cessation of suffering and its cause is cessation. This is also cessation because of the cessation of afflictions. Because the fire of suffering is completely pacified, it is peace. The complete cessation of suffering and its cause is an excellent state desired by those who desire liberation, therefore it is excellence. Desiring to attain it is irreversible, it is a permanent place.
