Therefore, it will definitely arise. Thus, one should meditate on realizing the truth of cessation from the perspective of the benefits of the result. At the beginning of that, one should meditate on the truth of the path from the aspects of path, reason, proof, and definite departure. Among them, the wisdom that realizes the selflessness of the aggregates is the path, because it leads to the supreme city of liberation, hence it is the path. Because it acts as an antidote to eradicate afflictions, it is reason. Because it establishes the impermanence of the mind and other realities without distortion, it is proof. Because it leads without hindrance to the state of permanence, it is definite departure. Thus, one should meditate on showing the truth of the path from the perspective of the benefits of the cause. Thus, after meditating on the selflessness of the person through the four truths as an antidote to the obscuration of afflictions, after that, as an antidote to the obscuration of knowledge, one should meditate on the selflessness of phenomena through the two truths. That should be understood through the yoga of non-conceptualization of emptiness, the ultimate truth of equipoise, and the yoga of conceptualization of dependent origination, the conventional truth of subsequent attainment, and the yoga of non-dual, all-supreme emptiness, free from contention, spontaneously accomplished. The first is to be meditated upon as follows: If these external and internal phenomena had even a little bit of inherent existence, then it would have to arise from either self, other, both, or without a cause, because for something established by its own nature, there should not be another way of arising. As it is said: Not from self, not from other, not from both, not from no cause, whatever things, wherever, there is never any arising. Thus, by reasoning such as this, since arising from the four extremes is not reasonable, there is no arising. Whatever does not arise, that does not have inherent existence, like a flower in the sky. Whatever does not have inherent existence, that is neither permanent nor impermanent. Likewise, one should not conceptually discriminate with the mind in any of the extremes of elaboration, such as form and formlessness, contaminated and uncontaminated, permanent and moving, impermanent, and so on.

Therefore, the teacher said, "What is spoken of is the opposite, because the sphere of activity of the mind is the opposite. The nature of things, unborn and unceasing, is the same as nirvana." Thus it is said. Therefore, such a nature of things that cannot be examined at any extreme, in that way, the yogi, relying on scripture and reasoning, having separately discerned and ascertained with discriminating wisdom, then, without dwelling on any extreme of his own mind, without clinging to anything, without attending to any sign, should evenly place the mind. Or, one should meditate like this: 'O sons of the Victorious Ones, these three realms are only mind,' it is said. All phenomena are merely the complete imputation of the mind, and there is nothing whatsoever established apart from the mind. That mind is not perceived within, nor is it perceived outside, nor is it perceived as both absent. The past mind is not perceived, the future mind is not perceived, and the present arising is not perceived. When the mind arises, it does not come from anywhere; when it ceases, it does not go anywhere; when it abides, it does not abide anywhere. In short, the mind is ungraspable, unshowable, without support, non-material, its own nature is not established anywhere, it does not abide in an object, it does not abide in a direction, it does not abide at any extreme. As it is said in the Heap of Jewels Sutra: "Light-protected, the mind is not found if one searches everywhere. That which is not found is unapprehended. That which is unapprehended is neither past, nor future, nor present." And so on, as it is extensively taught. Just as the mind is, so are all phenomena the same. Therefore, having thoroughly examined the nature of all phenomena with discriminating wisdom, then, one should evenly place the mind single-pointedly on that very thing. Having become accustomed in that way, when the habit is perfected, the yogi's mind does not cling to any extreme, does not conceive of any sign, does not apprehend any object, and when it becomes inexpressible and liberated from all terms, it is said that the mind has arrived at the state of reality. It is also called the direct realization of the nature of things, and it is also referred to as transcendent wisdom.

However, that Dharmadhatu is free from all elaborations and has no difference whatsoever. The reason is difficult to understand, it can only be known from words. Secondly, regarding contemplating dependent origination in the post-meditation state, there are also two types of dependent origination: external and internal. First, regarding contemplating the dependent origination of the support and the supported, as it is said in the 'Compendium': Wind relies on the sky, on that relies the mass of water. On that relies this great earth, on that relies sentient beings. The cause for sentient beings to engage in actions is like this. Think about where the sky abides. As it is said, all sentient beings moving on the earth rely on and abide on the great earth. The great earth relies on the water circle. The water circle relies on the wind circle. The wind circle relies on the sky. The sky does not rely on anything, it is free from all characteristics, without a basis, without a root. Therefore, all these are rootless supports, baseless supports, not relying on anything, not abiding in anything. One should separately examine like this, this is the support of the sky. After that, contemplate the dependent origination of what is produced and what produces, as it is said in the 'Sālu Tree Green Leaf Sutra': That sprout that arises from the cause of the seed is not produced by itself, not produced by another, not produced by both, not produced by Īśvara (自在天), not transformed by time, not produced from atoms, not produced from nature, not produced from essence, not born from no cause. As it is said, one should examine like this: from the seed arises the sprout, from that arises the trunk, from that arises the leaves, branches, flowers, and fruits, etc., in sequence. That sprout is not produced by itself, another, both, or without a cause, therefore in reality there is no production. Where there is no production, there is no essence. Where there is no essence, it is unobservable. Where there is nothing to observe, it is neither past, nor future, nor present. However, if there is conceptualization in the seed, then merely relying on it, there arises only the conceptualization of the sprout. That conceptualization neither abides outside nor abides inside.
