As it is said. From this quote, it is clearly determined that Hearers and Solitary Buddhas also possess the wisdom of realizing that all phenomena are without inherent existence. If this were not the case, why would Hearers and Solitary Buddhas not be able to be overwhelmed by the power of wisdom by a Bodhisattva who has generated the initial thought of enlightenment? That is because they do not understand that phenomena are without inherent existence, while a Bodhisattva who has generated the initial thought of enlightenment does understand. There is also reason for this. If Hearers and Solitary Buddhas did not realize that phenomena are without inherent existence, then, like non-Buddhists, they would not be able to abandon the latent predispositions of the afflictions of the three realms, because they do not have the wisdom of realizing the true nature. Merely realizing the aspects of impermanence and suffering of the aggregates does not uproot desires and so on, because both are equally mistaken in clinging to the true nature of the aggregates. Just as the aggregates do not truly exist as beautiful and ugly, etc., as clung to by desires and so on, so too, the nature of impermanence and suffering, etc., do not truly exist in the aggregates, because they are empty of inherent existence. If it is argued that even if one does not abandon afflictions by realizing impermanence, etc., there is no fault because one abandons them by realizing the selflessness of the person who is the cause of those afflictions, then, those who cling to the aggregates as real things such as impermanence, etc., will not realize the selflessness of the person, because the basis for clinging to self is focused on the aggregates. As it is also said in the Ratnavali: 'As long as there is clinging to the aggregates, there is clinging to self. From clinging to self, karma arises, and from karma, rebirth arises. Without beginning or middle, these three paths, the wheel of cyclic existence, like a wheel of fire, constantly turn into each other, this is cyclic existence.' Starting from the entrance into cyclic existence, it is explained that clinging to the aggregates is the root of arising in cyclic existence. Also, as it says in the same text: 'Because it is not found in oneself, others, or the three times, clinging to self will be exhausted, and then karma and rebirth will also be exhausted.' Starting from the cessation of cyclic existence, it is explained that knowing that the aggregates are without inherent existence is the antidote to arising in cyclic existence. If they
