These are: the branch of engaging in the act of composing; the nature of the treatise to be entered; and the branch of completing the act. Firstly, within the branch of engaging in the act of composing, there are two aspects: indicating the cause worthy of praising the Bhagavan, the root of all great virtues, great compassion; and showing praise to him through stating his nature. Regarding the first aspect, two verses are stated, such as: \"Shravakas and middle Buddhas are born from the Subduer, Buddhas are born from Bodhisattvas, the mind of compassion and non-dual wisdom, the mind of enlightenment is the root of the Buddhas' children.\" The first verse mainly shows the Bodhisattva among the four supreme individuals, and shows that its cause is the three dharmas, such as compassion. Among them, the Shravakas and the Pratyekabuddhas, who are middle Buddhas, are born from the powerful teacher, the perfectly enlightened Buddha. Because when the Buddha appears in the world, he will teach the undeceiving dependent origination. And the disciples, through hearing, thinking, and meditating, each according to their particularly inclined faculties, can perfect the three enlightenments, such as Shravaka. If the Shravakas are said to arise from the Buddha's teachings, then aren't the Pratyekabuddhas self-enlightened without relying on the teachings of others? How can they be said to arise from the Buddha's teachings? There is no fault. Some say: Having heard the Tathagata teach dependent origination, even if one is skilled in realizing the ultimate truth, one will not attain Nirvana in the very life one sees. However, just like the ripening of karma that is certain to be experienced, one will undoubtedly attain Nirvana in another lifetime. Moreover, if one does not encounter the appearance of a Buddha, one will become a Pratyekabuddha. As it is said in the Four Hundred: Knowing that nature" } ] ============================================================

Therefore, here, even if nirvana is not attained, in another life, without effort, it will surely be attained, according to one's karma. Thus it is said. Also, in the Madhyamaka, it is said: When the perfect Buddhas have not appeared, and the Shravakas have also perished, the wisdom of the Pratyekabuddhas arises greatly without reliance. Thus it is said. Furthermore, the Pratyekabuddhas in their last existence do not closely rely on the teachings of others, but they are not entirely independent. Why are they called Shravakas? Because those who have attained the fruit of the true precepts proclaim it to others, saying, 'Thus it has been done, and from this, other existences are not known.' Or, having heard the Mahayana path from the Tathagatas, they proclaim it to those who strive for its meaning, hence they are called Shravakas, as it is said in the Lotus Sutra: 'O Protector, today we have become Shravakas, and we will truly proclaim the supreme Bodhi, and we will also greatly utter the sound of the supreme Bodhi, therefore we Shravakas are like the inexhaustible.' Thus it is said. Would Bodhisattvas not also be at fault? They would not be at fault, for it is merely proclaiming, and whoever does not practice accordingly is called a Shravaka, but Bodhisattvas are not like that. Why are Pratyekabuddhas called intermediate Buddhas? Because the name Buddha has the meaning of realizing suchness, it applies to all three: Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Samyaksambuddhas. Therefore, Pratyekabuddhas are also referred to as Buddhas, and because the difference between their merit and wisdom increases from above, they are superior to the Shravakas, and because they lack the accumulation of merit and wisdom, great compassion, and omniscience, etc., they are inferior to the Samyaksambuddhas, hence they are called intermediate. For this very reason, in their last existence, they manifest self-arisen wisdom without relying on the teachings of others, and because they become Buddhas alone, they are called Pratyekabuddhas. Why is the Bhagavan called Shakyamuni? Because he possesses the supreme Dharma sovereignty.
